Big Tooth Maple planting advice ?
Comments (30)I agree that it may be from the really wet weather we had to start the year though some of that will depend on your soil and more importantly drainage (is it in an area where water pools and doesn't drain?). We also went from cloudy and somewhat cool temps (for Houston at least) to a lot of sun and heat the past few weeks which may be a factor. If your tree doesn't make it and you want to try another maple, I have a ton of shantung maple seedlings and could give you one (or more) for free....See MoreAre root canals worth the $$ in the long run?
Comments (49)I feel like I am re-living the original poster's nightmare. Very glad that people have continued to post and lots of great info here. In my case, my tooth was tender to the touch, seemed to have shifted or was a little loose, and the dentist just said, "you want to try to save it right?" He did not offer his opinion on whether the chances were good to save it or not. ASK QUESTIONS - THESE DENTISTS DO KNOW. He had done a root canal for me the year before without problems but this time was so different with the above symptoms. He did not try to get a large area of my mouth numb, did it in stages, caused me panic attacks, aggravated the nerve with the last shot and when I thought he was going to give more pain killer, he started drilling, which for the first minute or two, maybe, was tolerable, then the severe pain started. I am not a screamer, but wish I had let it loose - maybe he would have stopped - I swear it was torture with comments that it would be over after just a little more and a little more and finally just after the filling because he could not even begin a crown prep and had to see if the tooth would rebound. I cried off and on all day! and suffered most of the weekend every time the pain killers wore off alternating between ibuprofen and Tylenol with and without Vicodin. Swelling started on Sunday, got him to call me in an antibiotic but going to travel back to my home town 60 miles away hopefully tomorrow to get my old dentist to pull it. I can't live like this. I did call my old dentist at home in desperation - just needed her to say she would try to work me in. She said a tooth sensitive to the touch like this is considered a "hot tooth" and it is not recommended to try to save it. Hope this helps someone in the future to avoid this type of pain. If I don't stay on top of it with pain medications (now taking Alleve at prescription doses in hopes of a little more time to sleep) I am in severe pain from tooth root through my jaw, TMJ and ear. I hope this saves someone else some suffering!...See MoreRoot Canal issues
Comments (44)How do you deal with your dentist? This is what happens at my dentist's office. I go in for teeth cleaning. I always request this Ukrainian woman whom I feel does a good job. She takes X-rays of my teeth. She then cleans my teeth. Then she says she's going to bring in the dentist to examine my teeth, in case there are any problems. When the dentist pops into the room and looks at my teeth, she always finds problems. Two years ago, the dentist said I needed a root canal on one of my molars. Due to how expensive a root canal is, I only got around to having the root canal done last month. And I did not have my dentist do it. Instead, I went to Boston University's dental school for the procedure. It was much cheaper because it was done by a dental student under the supervision of a faculty member. On Monday I went to my regular dentist for cleaning. This time she found a couple of teeth that need fillings. But here's the big one: She feels that one of my lower back teeth needs a crown. I told her point blank that if I need a crown I'm returning to Boston University for I cannot afford her rates. In terms of the regular fillings, I can afford her but I'm wondering whether I really need them. I'm curious how other people handle their dentists. Do you simply go along with what your dentist suggests in terms of work that needs to get done on your teeth?...See MoreI broke a tooth on a Jordan almond!
Comments (29)marcopolo, I think you are correct--I had a handful of fillings before I reached adulthood, but only one of my three children had a filling by that time. I wish the manufacturer of the candy had included the instructions to suck the sugar shell off before chewing. Or maybe it wouldn't have done any good--I spoke by phone with a friend today, who told me she almost broke a tooth when she bit into the candy I'd given her. I said, "But I left you a message about breaking my tooth." She said she didn't think about it when she put the candy in her mouth!...See MoreJilly
