Comments (3)I think window treatments fall into two categories: The Practical: you have too much sun and need some shade because of the glare. You need privacy. The Decorative: many people use window treatments sort of like eyebrow pencil, or putting a scarf on an outfit--it finishes the look. Also, it can be used to add color and/or texture. It sounds like you are more in the "decorative" category. So, if you don't feel it would add to your kitchen in any way, I'd skip it. Plenty of kitchens don't have window treatments and they are beautiful without them....See MoreHelp with window treatment for family room and breakfast area
Comments (8)I have woven wood/bamboo shades through my house. Some are lined, most are not. I can definitely feel a temperature difference with them down. It isn't dramatic, but anything that keeps the sun from bearing down in your living room will help, and I lower them when it's really cold outside. I keep the unlined shades down more often since they aren't room darkening, I don't feel so closed in. I think they would look great with your decor. Mine are all outside mounted because of my double hung windows. I'll try to do a mockup for you to see if you would like them....See MoreWindow treatment for family room
Comments (7)I think they'd look better fuller (I think the height is fine), but if you add additional panels you'll lose a bit more of the view when the drapes are fully stacked open. I'd be tempted to add a panel to each side just to see how it looks though. (I really don't think what you have now is bad at all.)...See MoreFamily Room Lighting & Window treatment help
Comments (13)Thanks for your comment. We used a Walter Smith designer when selecting the couch. I too think it is a bit big for the space, but we just purchased it so we will have it for many years and will need to make it work. I had never heard the rug needed to be the length of the couch. I may relocate the rug to the dining room which we just added wood flooring, and then get a new rug for the family room....See MoreRelated Professionals
