Windsor Legend Windows for New Construction?
Comments (18)My recommendations: Vinyl-Sunrise, Okna, Softlite/Gorell, Affinity (Energex). Composites-Okna, Interstate. Fiberglass-Inline, Marvin. Wood-Marvin, Kolbe-Kolbe Please don't take this list as the only good windows out there. There are some regional manufacturers that make some very good windows, but I'm just not familiar enough with them to make a recommendation. Most manufacturers of vinyl windows will offer at least a tan/beige exterior and a white interior. Softlite offers a few basic extruded colors and an expanded selection of foil laminate exteriors and then adds in a fairly large selection of painted exteriors and if that doesn't satisfy you, they will also color match to any Sherwin-Williams paint colors. Sunrise offers about 4 exterior colors and a few interiors colors.Okna also offers a pretty good selection of extruded colors and also an expanded selection of painted exteriors. Inline offers about 5 standard factory colors and will also do any custom colors. Marvin offers a decent selection of cladded exteriors....See MoreWindsor Pinnacle Wood Clad Windows with Concealed Jamb Liner
Comments (5)Hello Millworkman - If you have not yet seen our Director of Sales' message to you on a different thread (https://www.houzz.com/activities/user/srenke70), I encourage you to reach out to him. As he mentions, "we strive for continual improvement with the goal of providing the best windows and doors for homeowners’ budgets. We take all comments about our products very seriously, and I’ve noticed that you seem to have had a bad experience with Windsor in the past. As a long-time millwork man, myself, I invite you to give me a call so I can gain a better understanding of your experiences and hopefully show how we have addressed those issues. Please call me at 1-800-218-6186 and ask to speak to Scott Renke, Director of Sales. I value your input and look forward to your call." Windsor windows and doors have been installed in some of the most magnificent homes throughout North America, including the Bighorn Ski Chalet at Revelstoke, British Columbia -- voted World's Best Ski Chalet 2013-2015. This and many other projects by highly respected builders and architects speak to the quality of our products and our focus on customer service. Most importantly, our windows and doors meet the same rigorous standards set by independent testing companies as other window manufacturers that display the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) sticker, and meet or exceed the specifications put forth by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). Again, I encourage you to reach out to Scott and have a one-on-one conversation....See MoreWindow options: windsor vs marvin integrity and 2604 vs 2605 coat
Comments (4)I was just talking to someone in Austin as a matter of fact. They were comparing the Marvin Integrity and the Andersen E-Series in this case. I think it is as much a function of what "look" you are going for. Seems to be that the "modern" look is catching on these days to be honest. In that case, the sleeker profiled unit is probably the better look. Does you builder/GC have a window that he/she runs with? In Texas, even in the hill country, you can get away with Thermally Broken aluminum as well where you can't in most of the other parts of the country....See MoreMarvin Windows vs Hurd/Sierra Pacific Windows - which is better?
Comments (75)Moisture between the glass would not be caused by poor installation. Rather, it would be caused by a defective manufacturing issue or due to some type of unusual situation where the normal wear was affected. For instance, extreme variations in temperature due to orientation or something going on regarding the interior of your home. I design and specify windows for homes in Florida almost all of them on the water or close by. Sierra Pacific offers a 30 year warranty on its 2605 finish and 20 year warranty on its patented Coreguard wood treatment and I would consider those windows. Andersen performs well too but they reduce their 20 year warranty to 10 years when on the coast. In my 40 year career, I have had great success with Andersen and SP and would run away from Pella if you are looking for an aluminum clad wood window. Just my opinion based on more than a hundred installations....See MoreKate
