It’s a 6 panel steel door, which we painted black since this pic was taken.

Hi - your home is lovely and you have great, defining trim. I really don’t think such a crisp facade needs shutters adding.

(Also upstairs has no room to accommodate correctly proportioned ones: anything less than that just looks obviously faux?)

Thank you both! Marylee, I love these colors! And thank you for your opinion on the shutters; my husband was wondering about that too. I have a few questions. First, would you use the darkest color on the garage door and porch pillars? We thought about gel staining our garage door; would you recommend that for the 3rd color? Last, our painter says he prefers to use Benjamin Moore paint for our area. Are there similar colors for BM? Thanks again!

Hi - personally I wouldn’t create high contrast between the garage door and the body of the house. I would use the same colour as the siding, so eyes are not immediately drawn to them.. I’d aim for the front door to be the key point of focus.

If you do consider painting the brick I would recommend Romabio limewash which will allow the brick to breath. I believe Avorio colour is based upon Benjamin Moore’s White Dove.

I think garage doors appear more sophisticated a look, when no great attention is drawn to them.

I do not see any possibility for shutters here. Color that you choose would work great.

Oh WOW! What program did you use for that? That's great!! We are still considering lime washing the brick, but haven't decided yet. Thank you Marylee and Celery for all of your help!

I played around with the BM color program last night and used the colors you suggested above. I also tried the wood /brown garage doors with same color on porch pillars, and then a lime wash look on the brick. (I would probably make the door brown too.) Just playing around, but we like the look. Any thoughts?

They certainly have impact and draw the eye though.

I just don’t understand why one would choose to make something so utilitarian and large in scale, the major dominating feature of the whole home?

To me the fashion equivalent would be - a fabulous new black dress for a BIG night out accessorised with diamante knee-pads!

. I saw the limewash brand you recommended has a gray tinted product, so this photo shows that.

I do understand it's not everybody's cup of tea, to tackle these jobs in the same way, but honestly - now my eyes are drawn to your front door,,,,
