Comments (9)Your client is on the right track! Miscanthus cultivars 'usually' stay upright throughout the winter months adding interest to the landscape. However, some winters throw more at the grasses than they can take. We have had similar weather here and many of my grasses were flattened. As the snow & ice has melted some have managed to rebound to their original shape. Some of your client's grasses may rebound. Those that don't can be cut-back enough to tidy them up. I would leave a foot or two for winter protection. As for the centers becoming sparse. This is a normal thing for most clumping grasses. There are several 'fixes'. 1. Dig the whole grass up, remove the center portion & replant ~ you could gain many more clumps of grass with this method. NOTE: Spring is the recommended time to divide grasses. 2. Chop out the dead center portion, add some soil & the grass will probably start to shoot in this improved area. 3. Leave it alone - the sparse centers don't show as the grass gains full size each year. I find that grasses with sparse centers have a lovely shape to them. Bluestem has a nice article about dividing grasses AND a link to a very helpful discussion on this forum! Here is a link that might be useful: dividing grasses...See MoreDefine 'Dated'
Comments (125)Bereniek: nother interesting article: "According to a report by the Christian Science Monitor, March 2006, staged homes sell for 7.4 percent more and twice as fast." Here is a link that might be useful: Home Staging Your Vacant House Actually that article is of no interest because the woman appears to be a stager of sorts. The CSM article may be promising. Hopefully I can view the article and determine the source data. I wish the first article didn't rely so heavily on home builders and marketers. They have an definite monetary interest in their provided data. I think what I need to search out is the raw, unbiased data of a marketer. But then I wonder if the marketer can be unbiased if they are trying to sell a marketing strategy? And, I wonder if it would be obtainable? It is a quandary. Thanks for some leads, Berniek. Comments (78)Kitchenkrazed09, The interior opening of the cabinet for the standard installation, which is what we did, needed to be 24"...So a standard 24" has to be backless. The flush/inset install requires 25"...Which can also be done with a standard cabinet that is backless, but away from the wall an inch. I seem to remember that they also recommend a wider cabinet for the inset look. We have a 30" frameless cabinet. Let me know if you have more questions, or if there are specific photos you'd like to see. There will be more photos on the blog I just started (linked above on Nov 20 post) than I usually put here, but they're not all oven-related. Comments (7)On the open areas I'd use one color. But it looks like you have multiple stopping points. The bumped out area with the raised plywood floor could be a complementary shade. The setback with the double set of french doors to the outside. The stairwell wall. Personally, I'd start by painting it all one color. Then as you live in it, add some more colors. That worked for me at least! Good luck!...See MoreRoost & Row
