Does anyone actually have the Thermador Pro Grand Steam range?
Comments (26)I posted a while ago and never came back to answer the questions- sorry! I can give an update: Weve had the range for about 18 months now and we are very happy with it. We use the griddle very often, the grill insert from time to time The steam oven works well- no water on the floor- the water container has a lid that closes before you slip it in the slot. My only complaint- the small oven does not brown evenly on convention bake- I baked 2 pies in there at Thanksgiving (one at a time)- and the tops browned more at the back end of the over- had to be careful and cover with aluminum foil to avoid burning. We've had problems with the circular thermometer in the center of the range- In my opinion this is a silly feature - it does not really reflect the temperature inside the oven as i moves immediately on setting on or off, and something was wrong with the way it was wired into our range- the wires came loose at least twice- we had the warranty so repair was completely free - might as well since it was free, and now its been fine - I wouldnt pay to repair this as it is not very useful. I have never used self clean- and after readying about frying electronics I have elected to not use that feature and clean the oven myself....See MoreThermador Pro Grand All Gas Range - does self-cleaning work well?
Comments (4)I have a thermador dual fuel. With that said a couple of items. I found that the self-cleaning function overheats the computer in the stove causing degraded components that eventually led to computer failure (500-700 each time it happened). The technician told me to never use the self-cleaning option. While your at it for all commercial grade stoves (except I believe wolf) you would be wise to install a whole house transient surge protector (about 500 installed). I lost several computer boards over many years. Once I installed this-no more troubles with the stove computer blowing out during storms....See MoreWolf, Dacor Epicure, or Thermador Grand Pro?
Comments (8)I would avoid Dacor. The bezel cracked on our dual fuel range shortly after purchasing it---Dacor told us it needed to be "redesigned" and it took many months for them to "redesign" it, then finally to replace it. It cracked again anyway shortly after being replaced. It is unsightly, with 2 big cracks right on the front of the control panel. Our neighbors have the exact same range and have had the exact same problem. We were told the second time around that this time we would need to pay to replace it ourselves--for a whopping $350 just for the part!! We haven't been able to scrape the money together so everyone who visits our kitchen sees it and comments. Leaves a VERY bad taste in our mouth for Dacor......See MoreDo you own a brand new 2013 48" All Gas Wolf Range?
Comments (11)Eliza6eth, I would do as Winnetka suggests ... wait to see if you can locate a floor model of the older style AG. One poster on GW found one recently, so there may still be some out there. I would also make some calls on my own to other stores rather than relying on one dealer to find one for me. The older style Wolf AG still has the black shiny top that you aren't fond of. However, I've found that it is a snap to clean, and a final wipe with a microfiber towel gets rid of any smudges and fingerprints. The entire top comes off if you needed to soak it in the sink, but I haven't made any messes that required more than a soapy sponge to the surface. In response to your 2nd question ... is Wolf's new design a mistake for them? I tend think so, because a lot of people who would have been attracted to their old-style range are not going to appreciate the new, sealed burner model and are going to look elsewhere. Because they no longer offer that option, Wolf is going to lose out on that entire demographic that does not want sealed burners. Personally, I wouldn't want one of the newer Wolf AG ranges ... the top no longer comes apart and there are too many cracks and crevices on the cooking surface for food and liquids to fall into. The grates are gigantic! I prefer the single grates on the older version because they are easier to lift off, clean, etc. and I really like the beefy look and feel of them as opposed to the newer grates. The new style AG oven has a spark ignitor which "click, click, clicks" each time it relights, whereas the old style has the glowbar style that doesn't make any noise at all. I looked at every little thing on both the old-style and new-style Wolf's when I was shopping for a range, and IMHO, the old-style is far superior in build quality and design. I don't know if performance has been sacrificed, because I haven't cooked on the new version....See Morelucky998877
