Paint Home Decorating Design Dilemma

So I am painting a 2 story accent wall in my open concept first floor with a dark gray metallic (PPG sly).

The trim is a matching dark gray, and the walls are light greige.

The question is, this space includes the stairwell with a large window. Will this look ok with the trim and walls painted basically the same color. Or should I rethink the trim in this one location and go with an accent? The carpet is being removed and will be the dark hardwood.

The overall style is eclectic with mid century modern, and global design elements - so I’m open to bold options.

Im not sure I can convince hubby to replace the trim with stained wood, which is my first instinct, which would go with the rest of the design. Any other suggestions?

What did you plan to paint the stairwell? Light greige or Sly?

NO, not stained trim with metallic paint.

If your ballusters are white, I might give some serious consideration to painting the total window from and wall a stark white......a reverse accent.

The stairwell is the light greige. I’m condsidering painting just the wall with the window Sly (along with another wall not pictured).

It all depends on the overall feel that you're going for in that room and the design of the rest of the home. My first thought would be to trim it out the same as the rest of the house so that the rooms flow together and it not look like an add-on. But, I really have nothing to go on so what you're considering may look stunning! As you can see in the link below, an all wood room can work when the other rooms are finished differently within the home. A pic would help. Here's Sam; he doesn't mar the walls as Harry did; but he sure sheds! The purple towel is over the glider to hide the ugly fabric until the upholster can re-do it with the correct fabric I had chosen and paid for. If Sam seems "stretched," click on the photo and it will straighten up.

I would paint the walls a pale but warm blue, whitewash the fireplace, put up cream-colored, thicker curtains with a white or cream pole, have blue and soft red pillows and do what you think is best with the bookcase. I would leave that for last. Right now the contrast between the lower and upper half of your room is too great, and the white looks boring. You could paint the walls a warm cream if you're against the blue wall color. I wouldn't put anything on top of the mantel or the bookcase and hang the snowshoes elsewhere. Also remove the two items off the base of the fireplace. In a smaller space you don't want clutter, and whatever is there should be meaningful and beautiful.
