Need laundry room cabinet layout help
Comments (3)Build a pull-out ironing board into a ceiling-height cabinet next to the washer. In the same cabinet plan storage for laundry soap, dryer sheets, your iron, etc. Next to the dryer extend the counter all the way to the wall. Use the space beneath for a pull-out for a garbage can and a basket to toss stuff that needs to be dry cleaned or hand washed. You could install low drawers right under the counter, handy for tossing stuff found in pockets, basic tools, mismatched socks...Above the counter you could do closed storage if needed, or an open shelf to store laundry baskets. On the wall by the entrance door install a retractable clothes drying rack or two, depending on the space available. They are amazing. I have a heavy duty metal one and I found jumbo plastic clothespins that work with it, so I can hang a full load on it and it only takes up a few square feet when extended, almost nothing at all when pushed in. Plan for a full size utility sink with a cupboard base, goose neck pulldown faucet, and a foot or two of counter on each side. (Remeber to leave enough room between the left side of the sink counter and the garbage cab for the drawer to pull out. Or just skip the pullout and have it open underneath if that doesn't bother you.) The first time you have to wash a big bucket or soak a desperately stained piece of clothing you'll be glad for the extra volume. Again, closed or open storage above the sink....See MoreLaundry Room Cabinet depth with front loaders
Comments (10)Thanks so much for the input!! You are so right. The fridge top cabinets will need a step ladder to get to the top or back but that's OK because they will store back-ups of TP/paper towels/ziplocks etc. - crap that currently resides on top of the fridge. I'm going to go with a standard sink height and depth with a removable counter over the washer/dryer. Fridge is big (36wx33d) and freezer is avg (32w29.5d). Follow up question: Is allocating space for both the fridge and the freezer the best use of space? Am I better off allocating that space to a nice built in utility cabinet? We only plan to stay in this house another 5 years or so, which means I want it to work for us but also not be so customized that it doesn't suit the average home buyer. We have a counter depth fridge in the kitchen plus a full sized fridge in the basement, so the laundry room the 3rd fridge in the house. If it goes out, we would not replace it. Unfortunately the placement of the electrical panel doesn't allow us to use the whole length of the room for built in cabinets, but I could put the extra fridge in the end corner and still meet code for clearance around the panel. Thanks again for the input!! Choice #1 building in space for our freezer and 3rd fridge. No room for a utility cabinet. Vacuum and hose will have to live in the back corner by the freezer. Choice #2 adding a utility cabinet, but no room for the "extra" fridge. It can go in the end corner and still have enough space around the electrical panel to meet code. Vacuum and hose can go in utility cabinet. Choice #2 view from the door....See MoreLaundry Room cabinets
Comments (2)Nice clean aqua color. PPG's Break Through paint or Insl-X's Cabinet Coat. I've used both. Break Through preferred by a hair. (Available at PPG dealers.). I have used Break Through on cabinets and on the laundry room floor. You're limited to white & very light tints if you buy Cabinet Coat at Home Depot. Home Depot does not carry the tint base version of Cabinet Coat. Also, Cabinet Coat may be order only from HD. I had to order it but my nearest store is a small store. I was fine with white and the order came quickly. Check Benjamin Moore for the tint base version and/ or in stock supply....See MoreLaundry Room Cabinet sizes
Comments (1)If you are looking at the "nice" laundry rooms these base cabinets are typically custom made. Typical base cabinets for kitchen and bath are usually around 36" in height, where a washer dryer height is usually around 40", but you might be able to find some 30" tall ones. Hope this helps.
