I think most shades of red or maroon for a wall color is dated. (depending on your style, that is. I definitely don't like it for traditional decorating.) if you're not sure whether to take away or keep your maroon wall, I vote to take away.

I'm also not a fan of a colorful accent wall when all other walls are beige. so if Wheatbread is the color you want, then skip the accent wall. bring in color with art and accessories.

a design mistake I see people making all the time is when they want to incorporate a huge amount of a specific color just because it's their favorite. I recently tried to talk some friends out of painting their living room bold yellow, just because they love that color. they had a red couch and I kept trying to tell them any shade of yellow would look awful with their furniture. but they were going with emotion only ("yellow is the most cheerful") and did it anyway. later they complained to me that they hated their new wall color. go figure.
