Shorebird needs curb appeal...please add your ideas
Comments (29)Lindy, on my computer, those colors all look very green. Can you pull up a pale grey-blue instead of grey-green? Also, tan colors would work. I would not go burgundy on an MCM house. Check out the Eichler Network for good Eichler colors, door styles, lighting styles, etc. Here is a link that might be useful: Eichler Network....See MoreNeed curb appeal/landscape ideas
Comments (7)Glad you enjoyed the link. Yes, it will definitely need to be scaled down, but the pictures give you a sense of what types of plantings you'll need. To widen your sidewalk... Imagine you are standing in the driveway looking at the sidewalk. Now, step 4 feet to the right and mark a point. From that point at the edge of the drive, connect it to the corner of the sidewalk (patio). It should make a triangle. Now, just make a little curve to the line, either in or out, whatever you like, pave it in the same stone as your other area, and now you have an "entry court" instead of just a sidewalk. I'm imagining the entire paved area as one big space. You could even move some of the shrubs from in front of the windows to enclose your little courtyard, or an outline of lavender would look really great too. Then you could plant some creeping fig on the garage wall behind the bench and put up a little wall fountain which will eventually be surrounded by the plants. Or put 3-5 big pots with Italian cypress or other tall narrow shrub along the wall. Certainly save the crepe myrtle, It would look fine on the L of the drive. The other thing to think of is what you are going to be using your front yard for, if anything? Do you need the grass for play, do you want a strolling garden? You mentioned a nice entry and some privacy, is the side road busy? Do you need a big hedge on that side, or just something to add interest and make the house seem less exposed? ANother thought- put an oversized lantern on either side of your garage (mediterranean style, of course!)...See Moreneed help with front landscape to add curb appeal
Comments (2)Planting alone is not going to fix the overall picture. The stoop needs to be widened out until it can support the corner post in order for the entry area to look complete. Expanding the sidewalk would help the entrance look more inviting. The existing shrubs placed haphazardly seems to do nothing in support of the architecture. I'd place a shrub that ties in with the window there instead. And some color by the stoop would up the cheer factor. My drawing alludes to a small tree being off the corner of the house and a bed corresponds with it, but your picture doesn't extend far enough to show those things properly....See MoreHelp Choosing Shingle Color & Ideas to Add Curb Appeal to Our House?
Comments (4)Hmmm...neither of those shingle colors look right to me. It could just be my screen, but the top one looks like it could have a little blue undertone, and the bottom one looks a bit red. Is the brick mortar more gray...or more gray than it looks on my screen? If so, I'd stick with gray for the roof as long as it has no blue. Gray roofs with brick are usually nice. Agree there's not much room for properly sized shutters. You could beef up the window trim instead. BTW, the roof color in your third photo looks good. Maybe stick with something close to that....See MoreSierra M
