Cindy, I know you will enjoy that greenhouse. If you have been growing vegetables in pots and transporting them back and forth this winter. I have been lucky enough to have had plenty of peppers and tomatoes from my garden. We have had very warm weather December, January and half of February. Now it looks like we are going to get our cool winter weather in March. They say we may have a light frost this weekend. All my spring vegetable crop is up. So now I will have to use all my wifes old bed sheets plus purchase some frost cloth to cover everything. My Daddy always grew hot peppers in a container when I was a kid in Georgia. He would sit it on the porch during the warm days and bring it inside at night. He loved eating hot pepers with his vegetables. Luther

Happyday- I do see some nice plump voles that might have a squeeze, but I suppose you're right, and 1/2" hardware cloth is very expensive. I have 2 cats plus a stray that is here daily, one cat is quite a hunter and I saw her catch one, came back in about 5 minutes, and all that was left was a skull. Ewww. I like to plant carcasses (and spoiled meat) down the tops of vole and mole holes in hopes of spreading some disease, or at least stopping the tunneling in that area. But the vole damage has been getting worse. They nipped off about 5 large squash plants at the ground, like they do the pole bean stems, I think because they don't like stems in their way, not to eat them. I put a 4" galvanized nail (warning: danger) and sprinkle cayenne pepper in each pole bean hole so I can get any plants up at all, then wrap each stem in aluminum foil after that. It actually works pretty well. But bush beans are harder. I may try thickly interplanting with greens, that may slow them down. I tried trapping voles with mouse and rat traps under inverted tubs. They work a time or two then I stop catching any, maybe they smell suspicious. I tried poison bait in pop bottles with the ends cut off, as I don't like the idea of the stuff in the soil and didn't want the cats to get into it. I have no way of knowing if it succeeded at all. I'm going to try getting a fertilizer wand you poke into the ground and hook up to a hose to put water into their holes and drown them some. It might slow them down a little. I also tried planting some gopher purge and encourage garter snakes by building up some piles of brush near my beds and putting down some tarps or newspaper (which can also encourage voles unfortunately); I've seen a lot more snakes since, it seemed the cats were wiping them out at first. Carol, I'm growing North Carolina Speckled Long Greasy Cut Short (from Remy's Sample Seeds website) this year for the first time and, with my poor memory, can you imagine how I'll butcher the name this summer? I'll likely call it by some combination of the right words, but mangled up in the wrong order like "North Carolina Speckled Greasy Short Long Cut Greasy" or something. Maybe I'll just refer to it as North Carolina and no one will know what I mean except me. I qualify more and more for the 'old age' designation every year. If you don't watch out, I'll catch up with you. I love cowpeas, but the rest of my family doesn't love them as much as I do. It likely is because I grew up in a gardening family that raised cowpeas and ate them a lot growing up. During the summer months we have too many fresh green beans and do get tired of them at times but never too many cowpeas. I would grow more cowpeas if they'd shell themselves, but since I have to sit and shell every last one of them, I don't raise more than I am willing to shell. Also, there's a purple hull pea farm in Thackerville that sells them by the bushel. I always tell myself that if my cowpeas fail I will just buy a bushel from them, but I never have. I just keep sowing succession crops until I get enough cowpeas to make me happy. Last fall the cowpeas produced until well after the first freeze (I did cover them up with row cover on potentially freezing nights) and put up so many of them that I still have some in the freezer. It has been quite a while since we have had enough cowpeas frozen to get us through the winter. We still have green beans in the freezer too because no one in my family wants to eat them more than 2 or 3 times per week (except me). This year I am planning to make some dilly beans, which is something I normally don't make because it means I might not have as many beans in the freezer. Since I don't have to plant as many tomatoes for canning this year, I have more room to plant extra beans for canning. Karl, We have some real bean lovers here, so you're in good company. Dawn

Ordered the pepper seed. Did not find Romano pole bean but Baker Creek did have Marvel of Venice which looks like a flat wide yellow version.
