How do I remove drip stains on my Pallman Wax finished red oak floors?

We had all the floors in our home redone (professionally) 9 months ago. They are red oak. The floor finisher used Pallman Wax in a clear finish. We love the result, however, recently we have dripped something on the kitchen floors (near the sink) that is dark and won't come up (tried buffing with a rag; tried using the rough surface on a sponge -- bad idea b/c now we have tiny "sanded" looking areas but the spots are still there; and today, I mixed up Pallman Magic Oil and touched up that area specifically. The spots/drips remain. Does anyone know what is causing the spots? Coffee? Vinegar? Lemon? Soapy water? Dishwater drips? And, most importantly, how can I remove them???
