Comments (9)The shrubs that block sight lines to the front door need to be removed. Can you add photos? The one you have is a good overview, but doesn’t give enough detail. Stand about 30’ straight out from the front door and turn your body so you are facing the left property line. Take a series of photos from the same place by rotating your body to create a set of slightly overlapping photos that span from the left property line to the right property line. We need to be able to see location of first floor windows, existing beds, walkways, front entry, etc....See More1960’s Split Level - exterior update
Comments (4)This suggestion is a little outside the box, but hopefully will sparks some more ideas for you. In my old neighborhood, there were homes called "side splits" where an entry next to the garage lead to a foyer type situation and you walked up a few steps to the side to enter the main living space. I'm thinking this may be a solution for you, especially living in NY you might appreciate a main entrance that doesn't just dump you right into the living room. An awning above the new front door on the driveway level helps define the entrance....See MoreHelp With Split Level Exterior
Comments (11)Hi Courtney! I really like the olive green house, actually. I think the place could use some updating and possibly a richer tone of green, but I quite like the way the house is headed. Its unique and elegant, and resembles some mid century homes. I think the place could use some updated paint on the windows, doors and garage. You could also consider investing in new garage doors + a new front door in a natural wood look with a more modern style. Your house resembles a design we have called The Fatima Exterior Palette. Check out the guide for some references and inspiration for how to achieve this look without changing too much about the house! https://thespecbinder.com/collections/exterior-paint-palettes/products/the-fatima-exterior-finish-palette...See MoreExterior update on split level 70s house
Comments (6)I think split level/split foyer houses look better if the brick and siding colors are very close, so you're already there with the siding color. If it's not quite right I can't really tell from the pictures. That's something you have to judge in person. If the siding was darker it would make the house look top heavy and emphasize the different finishes. For me this isn't desirable, but maybe others like it. As the other commenters have said, the shutters are unnecessary and need to go. The garage doors could be darker, not white, and windows in garage doors always look better. An imitation natural wood color or something leaning brown would look nice with the brick and siding....See MoreDesign Girl
