Help! Furnace broken...how to keep the pipes from freezing?
Comments (14)I totally disagree about having to drain the pipes. Open all the sink cabinet doors and use space heaters. Find out if the weather is going to be clear as well as cold. If the sun is shining, your home will gain heat during the day through the windows. You also already have a warm thermal mass if the house was warm when the furnace quit and you have a basement. Your basement may not feel warm to you, but it is a far distance from freezing. It will help keep the pipes from freezing during these four days. If the weather is going to be cloudy or windy, the single digits are going to last well into the daytime, or the pipes are close to walls that are not well-insulated, then provide space heating nearby or get heat wrap for the pipes. You could also go to Lowe's or HD and get the foam insulation tubes that are split and fit right over the pipes. Unless your furnace was a hot water system that also provided your hot water, you also have the heat of the water heater to keep at east the hot lines and the fixtures and drains warm. We all should probably insulate those hot pipes, anyhow. Kerosene heaters give me the willies, I hear too much about people being asphyxiated by not venting them properly. I think electric is safer. Either way, someone has to stay home if you are running space heaters....See MoreRadon Pipe: How to hide on home exterior
Comments (5)Too cold and rainy to go out and get a photo, but ours is on the side of the house between a garage and a walk out basement (there is a grade change between them as our driveway is rather steep and curved) and it is clustered with other items like the gas meter, dryer vent, and ac unit. We have a fenced area around it as it's also where we store our trash can and our riding lawn mower....See MoreHow to Hide AC Pipes in Bed Room
Comments (4)Paint the power cord to match the ceiling...will be less noticeable. Also drapes on either side of your window...one from window even with air conditioner to corner and other from air conditioner to about a foot past the window. This will hide the thick pipe leading to the air conditioner....See MoreNatural gas fire pit how to hide gas pipe while adhering to CA code?
Comments (6)Where I live there id no such code we have a gas BBQ hook up right behind it just like a gas stove and all our friends have gas firepits but they are of course not real wood burning . I have no idea about CA codes( some of which are very weird) but I see no reason to not be able to bury the hose sincs IMO this is much more dangerous that a buried line and what is that hose made of ? It looks likeplastic but hard to tell....See MoreRelated Professionals
