I would absolutely do 9x12. With your 8x10 tape, every time you set your feet down off the bed, it's going to be half on and half off the rug (or barely on the rug). Walking out of that space, you'll always have one foot on and one foot off the rug. That would drive me nuts! If you want to show more floor, you could always push the rug back towards the headboard a little more, but that might cause the same half-on-half-off problem when you're walking past the end of the bed. There might be a viable balance there if you try it out, though.

the bigger rug will be more comfortable for walking, but it will land just barely under your dresser legs, and also the vase on the left side. that will look weird. you might need to scoot the rug about 1 or 2 more inches to the right. I don't think that shift will be noticeable from your point of view but it's something to consider.

technically the small one will look better, as long as you're ok with walking with one foot off the rug when you're next to the bed.

no matter which one you get, you should push it more towards the back wall. you want your side tables to overlap the edge more.

The vase is going... and larger nightstands are coming. They will fill the space between the bed and the wall.

I honestly do not see the point of a big rug 1/2 hidden by a bed I like just a nice mat to put my feet on in the morning and if you love your floors you don’t even need that. I think in your space go with 2 nicce fluffy flokati rugs one on either side

I do agree I am not 100% that I even want a rug. Just figuring out my options.

I put a huge rug under my bed for a couple of reasons:

1. because I wanted wall-to-wall carpet in bedrooms (so cozy on feet), but an area rug is more economical.

2. sound dampening and energy efficiency. we insulated the whole house, but every bit of additional material helps with both of these issues.

3. little rugs tend to scoot around and drive me crazy.

if it's a plain rug, I really don't care if most of it is hidden under the bed.
