Finished kitchen soapstone and quartzite
Comments (89)Go_figure01: thanks so much. The room is 13x28. The island is 3.5x9. I like having the work zone protected by the island. I can prep, cook, and clean up without my kids or guests underfoot. The other side of the island is where guest congregate, and it is also the main walkway from the back door to the rest of the house. So far, it is working great. I also am very happy with the bluestar range. The powerful burners boil water very quickly and the low simmer burner is great for rice. I've also been impressed with how even the heat is over a large pan. I think it does a wonderful job of evenly browning meat. The broiler is also great. No complaints....See MoreLooking for slabs -- question on soapstone and quartzite options
Comments (12)We just had soapstone counters installed last week and love them! We were not comfortable with local stone yards lack of inventory and information on soapstone though - each had 1 slab that could be scratched with fingernails. We ordered a sample pack through M. Teixeira in NJ and were very impressed with the variety and durability of some options. We selected Stormy Black - it is hard with dramatic veining. Fortunately we are only 90 minutes away from their location. They did a phenomenal job fabricating too. Oiled they are a gorgeous charcoal color that plays well with the light grey shaker cabinets. It is a big decision! Good luck....See MoreSoapstone? Quartzite? Both? Completely stuck on countertops...
Comments (20)Dayglosoright - it is called 'Albany' Quartzite at our local supplier. It is very translucent with green and brown veins. I'm not sure if it is a standard color and I can't seem to find it online, but I have seen similar stones at our other local suppliers. I think the imperfections in this particular lot worked to our advantage because it was inexpensive for quartzite :). Our fabricator was shocked at the price....See MoreMixing waxes on soapstone countertop.
