I can't tell you aesthetically which will be better but this is an issue we considered too (not yet reached installation phase but neeeded to know for DESIGN phase). Our designer pointed out to us that choosing one thickness over another would have design implications. If you think about it, the thicker your countertops are on top of your cabinets, the higher up your appliances will need to sit to be flush with the surface (ie dishwasher, slide in range if you have one). Also, it could change the distance between the lower cabinets and the upper cabinets unless you've already accounted for that. For us that was significant because the designer was ensuring that we were up-to-code in the distance between the range and the upper cabinets. Anyway, I got a little lost in the conversation when we were figuring all this out, but my point is, that it probably will have design implications that you should check up on. I don't know what phase of construction you're at but for us, it was certainly something we had to decide way ahead of time before our cabinets were even ordered. We are going with 1.5" which is pretty standard in the US and looks chunky enough for me. Or rather I should clarify that the front finish is 1.5" (approx 3.5cm). The actual thickness of the Caeserstone is the standard 3/4" (approx 2cm). They put an extra 'lip' on the front so that it looks like the piece is thicker than it is if you see what I mean.

Ste- Your floor guy should know, but I'm still having a hard time believing it. When I look at those joints and seams and irregularities, as well as the wide variations in wood grain and color, it looks nothing like engineered flooring. When was that floor installed? And how has he actually shown you that it's engineered? I'd love to have others chime in that they have an engineered floor that looks like that, but at this point I'm still dubious. Even if it is engineered, a light surface sanding will not come anywhere close to going through the veneer and shouldn't prevent you from refinishing. By the way, does this floor guy want to sell you a new floor...?

It's nice that with Fabric.com you can get a 15% discount when purchasing more than 5 yards. I just ordered samples them the other day but haven't received them yet. I'm not a fan of sewing so of course My3dogs has much more buying experience than I do, but the one and only time I've purchased from Fabric Guru, I was a bit disappointed. A month ago, I bought 3 large remnants of a Robert Allen print I really love, each one in a different color way. The fabric is a linen rayon mix so it should be soft with a pretty drape. Two of them are perfect, but the 3rd one is very stiff and so rough, it feels more like burlap that's been starched. The print and colorway are fine but it's definitely not a Rayon/Linen mix as the listing said. I bought them to see how the print would work as a valance in our kitchen/dining rooms so I'm not planning to use it. If I was, it wouldn't work and I'd be returning it. It could be a fluke, but for this reason, I'd personally think twice before purchasing from them again.

Hi All, Thanks so very much to everyone for their help! We finished most of our kitchen (only need the backsplash) and after the helpful debate here on this board, and working with our installer and the granite fabricator, we wound up with an incredible 6 cm, stepped edge counter! Everything fit perfectly, including the stove, dishwasher, etc. I know there were a couple of people here who expressed doubt this was possible or would work out very well, but after doing the math on my own, listening to the more supportive comments on this board (thank you!) and speaking with the team here, we proceeded with our dream kitchen counters and it worked fantastically! I spent a ton of time with the shop guys at the fabricator and detailed exactly where I wanted the cuts for the laminated, stepped edge and the average person cannot tell it is a laminated... the granite lines up perfectly and no obvious seam since it is stepped! Have a look and please let me know what you think of the outcome!
