How to style empty corner of room.

White built in on one side of room. I need a focal point behind cream sofa in corner. This is the corner you see most when passing by the room. Im leaning more minimal, a bit rustic but clean. Something calming , nothing busy. I would also like a bit more storage in room...possibly buffet and abstract art?

Grover - thank you! Just extending the curtain rod really makes a huge difference. I'll be changing the curtain, but I love how it softens the space and makes the slider look bigger. I think a snake plant would look great on the stool. Right now I just put what I have on hand. So excited about the new floor. Trust me, you'd never step on our dog - he's part Mexican Jumping Bean and still a puppy.

My suggestions would be to have a piece that has height. Iny sketch it shows a console table, could have a lower shelf or not. There is an art piece or mirror hung above with a small plant or candle holder accessory with a small stack of interesting books. A tall plant like a palm that was already suggested would also be an easy accent piece.

re: a futon I think they can be iffy in terms of quality, or design. I've run into ones that aren't comfortable as a sofa (too low; too deep of a seat; something), and ones that are too hard for sleeping on. However, my dad has one that opens to a double bed, and it's actually OK for sleeping, and it's OK for sitting. So I would say don't get one unless you're going to be able to look around and find one that's well designed and comfortable, and spring for it. I know my mom looked long and hard for this one. It has drawers underneath, which is nice for storing the pillows, etc., when it's in bed form (which nowadays is never; we just leave it made up anymore, bcs the socializing is done in the living room, and the futon is in the den). But if he expects to have people sleep over, a futon is useful.

We have a similar space in current kitchen and I bought a wheeled table from Costco and our microwave is on it. It has a handle on one end that can serve as a towel bar. I'd look for a vintage furniture piece, they are interesting and usually solid wood or wood veneer at least. A small buffet or even a narrow hutch top with furniture feet or legs added to the bottom. It's all about finding the right piece. You can still style it with abstract art or modern pieces, I love the intentional juxtaposition of old and new. Is that something you would consider?

Hi Bette, Yes, I have a couple of other buffet pieces or bottom of hutch in my home that I have painted. I would love to find a piece perfect for this space. I'm going lighter with the walls (sheeps wool) by BM eventually. I very much like mixing older and new:) The older piece are made so well!

Looks nice. I like that you haven't cluttered it up. Nice artwork. If you can get them, I think your drapes would look better if you added another panel on each side - as long as it doesn't impede the door.

Oh, that looks very nice and the scale looks good too for the width of the wall. Your diy, did you paint over a canvas you had? Sheep’s Wool might lean ever so slightly green, is that right? LRV is 74. What do you have on the walls now?

Hi Bette, ty! The art is wood..hubby made from leftover back side of wainscoating & frame homemade. I painted over old previous art I did. I cant recall what current wall paint color is as its been several years. I just repainted sitting room in sheeps wool. Its a very light gray.. I believe you're correct on the ever so slightly green. Im holding off for now as Im not set on the color. Suggestions?
