Vote - which floor/cabinet color combo
Comments (35)This wouldn't post this morning, and I think you may have moved past where it might help, but I'm going to post anyway in case it does. Needs, I'm too tired this morning to read through all the replies, but it's very obvious something's amiss. It's hard to say without seeing the samples, but it seems to me you were aiming for neutral and understated, and ending up more busy brown muddle. My memory might be off, but didn't you do your cabinet renderings in more of a cherry color? I'm not sure cherry is a great choice with your granite, but if you take the color tone out of the cabinets, I think you need to put it back somewhere. Again, if I remember the renderings right the granite read as significantly lighter than the cabinets, giving you nice contrast, and not only are you losing that, but the flooring choices are competing with the stone. No wonder you're not happy!!! You had a strong vision for what you wanted and you're not getting it! I don't remember your other furniture--I'm pretty sure the floor runs at least into the dining room? Is that right? Did you say just now? I'm sorry to be so dense. I think you should go neutral on the floors. Good old honey oak should go with everything and not compete with the stone or other furniture, and it has just enough color to warm things up a bit. I don't know if this is a different price category, however, or if you just hate it or anything. But I really would go for a single color floor in your position. For the stain, for your original vision, for contrast, and for a non-lodge look, I'd go with something rich and just a little dark so you'll get some pop for your stone. Dark honey. Cocoa powder. Maybe a deep Pilsner. Do go back and study your drawings. Your answer is probably in there....See MoreCan I match these color cabinets with this flooring- or which flooring
Comments (21)The colour/style/wood chosen for your cabinets are very formal. Contemporary but formal. The grain in the wood is VERY tight. Probably maple. I worry that any 'white wood' will look extremely rustic. The colours might work together but the woods will not. When wood is cerused or limed or white washed it is often a LOW GRADE of wood. As in 'rustic' with plenty of grain and ++++ knots. The reason? Because a HIGH END wood is RARELY covered/coloured/distressed to look 'rustic'. It would be a waste of expensive wood. That means if you pair a rustic white-washed wood (rustic...with some rustic and then something you would find on the broad side of a barn) together with a HIGHLY STYLIZED formal wood like your cabinets you will have wasted a tremendous amount of money on both products. You will notice in your inspiration photo the slate floors. They pair beautifully with the formal cabinets. This is about as 'rustic' as these cabs can handle. If you must have a light floor (and I agree, these cabs are so dark you need ++++ light to elevate the darkness in a kitchen) then look at a beautiful vein cut travertine floor. You can use either real travertine or you can use porcelain made to look like travertine. And before you deal with your flooring, PLEASE choose the colour of the island. In design you will want to work with the 60/30/10 concept: 60% for the main colour = cabinet colour 30% secondary colour = counter tops (whatever they may be) 10% accent colour = island or wall colour or backsplash...See MoreStaining Maple Stair caps to match LVP which is urban oak
Comments (14)If in doubt go darker. Like 3-5 times darker. When the product is PURPOSEFULLY stained a different colour than the floor, it is used as an ACCENT. That accent can then be 'picked up' in other ways. Such as a dark railing or dark spindles. All it takes is TWO items to create a 'look'. This works with pillows and area rugs or area rugs and drapes. It can work for stair treads and railings/spindles. Simply make the decision that makes TWO items the same colour. Maple is a pain to stain LIGHT...but it is very handsome when worked in a DARK stain. It will look 'almost' painted but not quite. Ask the wood trim company to create a dark charcoal or 'almost' black stain. And then MAKE SURE you get ONE OTHER ITEM in that same colour. The two put TOGETHER make a statement. It's a brilliant way to fix an oopsa....See MoreWhich floor stain goes with my cabinets?
Comments (7)I think it looks great! It will look even better when all the other the other design components are in. The jacobean helps tone down the pinkness that otherwise might show through with the red oak. Good choice. We almost went with jacobean with our white oak floors - ended up going darker with water popped ebony. It's not as dark as people expect it to be (of even as dark as I was thinking - my wife wanted darker and I was a bit scared). We have a lot of windows/natural light just as you appear to have, so it looks really good. In a small room with lower ceilings and little natural light dark is really dark, but when you have a nice open space and lots of natural light, darker floors can (and do) look really good....See MoreAngie K
