Furniture Design Dilemma living room

How should I arrange my furniture in my off-centered living room?

I’m having trouble placing furniture in this room. Everything is very off centered and I love symmetry. I’ve always wanted to put a built in where the chairs are with cabinets on the bottom and book cases on top, but I don’t want to invest in such a large and expensive piece before I’ve figured out the layout. The two couches have to stay, but I’m willing to move the tv stand to another room. I’m not opposed to the tv being mounted on the fireplace. A clear path between the two entrances is important to me. Please help!

How many people usually use this room? Is this the room you spend the most time in? If you moved the tv to another room, would that other room then be the room you spend the most time in? How often do you use the fireplace? If you put the tv above the fireplace, first find out if the tv can handle the fireplace heat.

Make sure the sofa is centered on the front window. Dress the windows…important to get some fabric on that side of the room.

Place the other sofa directly opposite (where t v is now.

The short wall where the chairs are now, is where t v/console goes with chairs on either side.

I agree the sofa is pretty , DO NOT put TV above that fireplace that brown whatever at the front of the pic needs to go along with all the other clutter on the floor and the bookcase. Then some proper drapes . The problem is the sofa is really nice and all the surrounding stuff really does not work with it. Get a nice cabinet to mount the TV above and put that next to the fireplce then put the sofa on the wall oppositeI actually like the cowhide with the sofa, The easy thing is too remove everything in the space and then only put back waht you need to begin with . So in your case the sofa a cabinet for the TV and the TV The art needs to hang on walls where it it works those 2 pieces on the right wall do not work there so when you buy your TV cabinet make sure it is quite long and with some good storage and get rid of the bookcase. Add some nice drapes hung properly then a coffee table a good floor lamp, then see what else makes sense and let that sofa be the star.

can you post a pic from the other direction? (stand next to fireplace) can the round dining table be placed closest to the kitchen? maybe off to the right in the foreground of your first picture as shown in your floor plan? are you putting a tv in there? where is the cable outlet? this layout is rather long and narrow. media cabinet lay out do you have an area rug? I like something like this to the left of the fireplace under the window or behind the sofa along one of the walls something like this would look cool. easy to hack w/Ikea Billy Bookcases.

Optimal seating happens with a 3-seat sofa and two upholstered armchairs. People won't sit in the corner of a sectional and everyone likes to have two arms to lean on and relax. Notice that almost no one sits in middle seats; they want to leave space to turn to their neighbor for some conversation. Sitting rowed up as though on bleachers at a sporting event is not a pleasant way to try and converse. Keep the chairs and return the sectional.

Elaine Doremus Resumes, we are a family of 6, but pre-pandemic we hosted on a weekly basis at least 10 adults, so we need as much seating as possible. This room and the kitchen are our main level and where we spend the most time. We have a lower level that also has a tv, but with smaller children, I prefer to have them on the same floor as me. We love to use the fireplace in the winter, however, its hard to put furniture close to it without everything becoming even more off-centered due To the windows and half wall.

You don't really need a coffee table, since you have the side tables. Just tuck a c table under the side of the couch where there is none. That should free up some space. Since you want to put a unit where the chairs are, the chairs will have to be relocated. Even with your two couches and chairs, you only have eight seats. Add more with poofs or ottomans. Relocate the two chairs in front of the fireplace (with their backs to the fireplace). Or as suggested, move the couch that's in front of the window to face the other couch. Then the chairs can go in front of the window. I agree with art going around the tv.

Place the two lounge chairs in front of the FP but on angles so the hearth can still be viewed. Add drapery panels to the windows.

The room needs some table lamps with translucent shades to provide light to the total room.

The trunk it a bit tall for the room. Maybe a chest with a lift top would suit the room better
