Do you use your steam oven or speed oven?
Comments (8)I use my steam oven all the time, but I don't really think that is useful information to _you_. What kind of cooking do you do? How often do you cook? Are you feeding a family of 2 or a family of 5? I will say that with a steam oven there will be a bit more of a learning curve than a speed oven. Most speed ovens are very easy to use. Many have menus that let you pick the type of food you're cooking and the quantity and boom, you sit back and relax while it does its job. Are you willing to experiment and learn more about a different type of cooking? Do you have time to do that? Like speed ovens, steam ovens are quite versatile, particularly combi steam ovens (these have convection too). They are not just for steaming vegetables as Gary makes them sound. I like them a lot for roasting, for the past few years I've done the Thanksgiving turkey in mine and each time they've come out quick and delicious. Another use is reheating. Leftovers taste great heating in there vs. a microwave. Though if you're going to be doing mainly reheating, a speed oven might be a better bet....See MoreMiele Speed Oven or Miele Steam Oven
Comments (15)Fortunately, I have a relatively large pantry (vs. a much smaller kitchen). So when I got the Miele Speed oven, I just moved my old Sharp microwave and my ancient, beloved, toaster oven into the pantry. Now, about 8 months after the remodel, I still use the toaster oven for toast, having never even tried to toast in the Miele. And the pantry's microwave gets used to do something quick (like melt butter) while the Miele is pre-heating, or baking, or whatever. Though these things only happen occasionally, its been often enough that I haven't seen my way to tossing out either old oven. The drawback, of course, is that there are 5 ovens in my little kitchen/pantry area, which seems excessive. And I suppose the pantry has less counter space for canned beans or whatever... As for the Miele's combination mode, I've only begun to explore this by using it to reheat things like casseroles -- Alton Brown's "Cauliflower Say Cheese", last night. Master Chef expects me to know how much these things weigh, which is a struggle, but last night's guess turned out just fine. Oh yeah, if you select Defrost mode, the Miele speed oven will heat in the range of 75 to 125 degrees. This setting is useful for cooking "raw" foods at 104. I did think about a steam oven as well, but there really was no way to fit it in there....See MoreWall oven/speed oven combo: bosch 800 vs. GE Monogram vs. Wolf/Miele?
Comments (19)@Amy Cantu We've been in our house for 6 mo now and I really like the GE Monogram oven. I haven't actually used the speed oven functionality of the speed oven. Just the microwave. And even then, we just use the add 30 sec option. I need to sit down with the manual and experiment with it. Unfortunately, using the speed oven is not as simple as just turning it on. It's pretty complex. I remember when I tried the speed oven at my friend's house it was really hard, and I thought I'd need to dedicate some serious experimentation to getting it to work for me, and doubted that I would ever bother using it as an oven except for Thanksgiving, which hasn't happened yet. My motivation to learn how to use it has been even less than I expected, so I'm sorry to say I can't report back. I also haven't tried using the oven probe functionality for the oven (haven't cooked a roast yet). Need to find the oven probe along with the speed oven manual! But I have done a ton of baking and roasting of vegetables and have been pleased. We were living in a rental house with a viking range and the GE monogram oven is 1000x better than whatever model of viking oven came with the range in the rental. Much more even. I've done two cakes side by side and they came out beautifully without the need to rotate. With a sheet of cookies I notice that sometimes a corner might brown a little quicker than another corner, but not so much that I really need to worry about rotating the pan halfway through. Broiler also works great--I've been making a lot of toast to go with steak tartare and an entire pan filled with toast toast 100% evenly under the broiler--hooray!...See MoreWolf E-Series Speed Oven vs. GE Advantium Speed + Wall Oven?
Comments (3)I have the 24" E series Wolf Speed Oven. You'll find some negative reviews here, but 6 months in I've grown to like it a lot. Once I learned how to use it, I've found it works really well both as a micro and as a convection oven (I've used the combo mode a few times and it's fine but not a mainstay for me). The only real negative was that the glass platter cracked about 3 weeks in. Wolf shipped a new one for free and even reimbursed me for the purchase of a temporary microwave while waiting for it to arrive. I posted a longer review here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6319311/kitchen-before-and-after-with-thanks...See MoreRelated Professionals
