Flooring Design Dilemma

Coretec Flooring: Tulsa Oak

Hi all!

Currently looking to re-do my flooring in my home and have decided LVP makes the most sense.

I’ve been looking into various brands and Coretec seems to be the one that comes up most often. A few questions:

Would love feedback from those who have this flooring, how is it holding up?

Also, any thoughts on which way flooring should run for an entry way (I have a formal living room to the left and a formal dining room to the right of my entryway with lots of bright open space, if this makes a difference). Wasn’t sure if it should run a particular way or if it is personal preference. I would like consistency throughout the house.

If someone is out there who has the Coretec Tulsa Oak color (color #00773) would love to see photos if you are willing to share. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find any real life photos of this color installed.

Vinyl and laminate can be run however you want it to run. Traditionally you run the long edge of the plank along the long length of the room. It sounds like you can run the planks long way down the hall and do the same direction in the rooms coming off the hallway.

Just be aware this type of product has a 'painted beveled edge'. That means each bevel has a darker stripe along the outside of every plank. It will not look like a continuous floor with planks blending one into another. The painted edge will create a look of individual planks sitting next to each other. For some this is a very attractive look because it gives the sense the floors are hundreds of years old (with gaps between planks/gunk stuck between the planks).

Others, like myself, are not very fond of this look. I like the colour and I think CoreTec is one of the best ways to go when working with vinyl...but be VERY aware of this form of painted edge. You will either love it or you will HATE it. There is no in between.

And make sure you do NOT need extra underlay. The CoreTec plus lines all have cork underlay sitting below the plank. That normally means you cannot use any other form of underpad. Coretec says you can use up to 3mm CORK underlayment...but nothing else. This is where laminate and vinyl differ. Laminate allows HUGE amounts of underpad (I've seen 24mm of cork under 15mm laminate = no problem).

I hope someone can offer the photos you are looking for. If in doubt, order a box and see how you like it.

You can also look for an engineered wood flooring product with the core and underlayment of lvp with a 1.2mm wood veneer top layer and a 20mil clear finish. A developing product category.

Hi @Lini Alim - We have not used Calypso Oak in our kitchen. It was installed in our basement. But we do have cabinets in our basement that will be white. Unfortunately the cabinet doors are not delivered to me yet. But I think you can never go wrong with Calypso oak and white cabinets.

That looks like Valor oak! Now I’m torn. Builder says he can stain red oak floors to match noble oak so I might have to go with valor. I understand the Coretec trees are $$$ and slippery!

We installed Coretec LVP in our Florida home. Makes perfect sense here.

It’s been in over a year now, and we couldn’t be more pleased.

When we close the house for the season we have to bring in our lanai furniture inside We drag it across the floor! No issues.

Check all the trim pieces from Coretec before installation! We had a Palo Alto Walnut Coretec floor installed in August. As they were getting ready to install the T-moulding I realized the color was off. Also it was supposed to be skimmed in the same pattern as the planking but wasn't. They didn't install it. The quarter round was also off but similar enough in color that we agreed to keep it.

FIVE MONTHS later Coretec informed the installer that Palo Alto Walnut is discontinued and we won't be getting the T-moulding. Back to square one. I am so frustrated.

My guess is that they are outsourcing the trim pieces without telling anyone. Someone mentioned that Shaw bought Coretec.
