Newly laid engineered wood glue-down and HOLLOW Sound???
Comments (11)Oh wow, I really do hope that is the case, echoflooring! How does one determine if the hollow sound is due to dips, or if it is due to adhesion problems? glennsfc, our substrate was flat to within the manufacturer requirements. The installers used a laser, and leveled areas with the appropriate concrete filler. If we were to use the injection technique to fill, where do we stop? There are seemingly hollow spots in MANY areas, not just one or two. There are so many spots - I'm guessing 30 or more.... thoughts?...See Moreneed someone smart- "hollow" spots
Comments (2)The floor has to be flat for a glue down. Improper prep is your culprit here. But, the level of prep that it seems that your floor needed is always an upcharge. Sometimes a significant upcharge, since you're having this many issues. Time to complain to your contractors board and read your contract about how you can sever this relationship....See MoreGlued down Engineered Flooring
Comments (37)There was zero dust in my house after undercutting my fireplace brick and grinding the slab. The installer had two gigantic hepa vacuums attached to each other and to his grinder. I was home during the install and didn't see any dust flying around at all, and there was none left when it was all over either. My slab looked to be in incredible condition compared to most that I've seen and it still needed a good deal of prep work. The installer went over every inch of it with a straight edge and marked all the high and low spots and there were some in every room. All of those areas were addressed before installing the wood. Additionally, the entire floor was roughed up with a grinder before any work started. If your installers showed up at your house and started gluing down wood the first day without checking everything first, that's a problem. From your manufacture's website for glue down: All Concrete sub-floors must be dry, smooth (level with 3/16” in a 10 foot Radius – 1/8” in 6”) and free of structural defects. Hand scrape or sand with a 20 grit #3-1/2 open face paper to remove loose, flaky concrete. Grind high spots in concrete and fill low spots with a Portland based leveling compound (min. 3,000 psi)....See MoreEngineered wood floor hollow spot
Comments (0)Couple months ago I have opened one discussions about brand new engeneered floor was splitting. The flooring company requestEd inspector from the Shaw floor. He was at my home and he told me they need to replace place that has been splitting. So yesterday installer removed defective plank and he was trying to replace with another defective wood. I saw him separating 2 box of new wood and put in his car. I warned him about the planks guess what he said ! He said he doesn’t have enough long prices 🤦♀️ First installation the installer told me he didn’t have enough materials To finish the job so he has to used all the wood. This time he was saying he doesn’t have enough long pieces. I told him I don’t want those pieces at all. So he left and I see 2 area has newly replaced splitting as well. Total 15 pieces of wood has been replaced and every single of them has hollow spot and snapping when I walked. To be honest I want to 😢 I am trying to put heavy weight on them since yesterday so far they are the same. I had really good advice last time here. He please advise what I need to do! Thank you!...See MoreDMannisO719
