Living Room Paint Color Recommendations

Hey all,

We just bought a new apartment and I am starting to throw around some ideas for living room paint colors. You can see the room in the picture I provided. Please ignore the furniture since its not ours. We will be putting in a gray couch, large red Persian rug, wooden armchairs (still deciding on leather or upholstery or mix). Our goal is to keep the room open and bright but I am so tired of white but will go with that if thats the consensus.

This is the room layout I am playing around with at the moment. We also might put in a shelving unit or tv stand but will wait till we get into the space. We will mount a TV to the far wall but also will decide once we get into the space. I am asking now since I want to paint before movers bring everything in. Thinking of painting the two long side walls.

Please let me know your thoughts.

This is layout we might go with once in the room. Depending on space the dining room table might be off to the side.

This is the actual sofa but with different upholstery.

This is the chair style I am considering. Still havn't decided on colors. Might do one that is a upholstery and one that is leather.

You may need to decide on furnishings first, then select paint to compliment. Also, it is hard to tell what the light is like throughout the day since you have large window. If the walls are in good condition I would either wait to paintir slect a light color to work with the gray and red tones you have already slected.

Thanks for the reply. I added a few pictures of the existing furnishings. I agree with trying to match the furnishings with the paint but prefer to do it before I move everything into the room along with my family since its already a small space and trying to paint on top of that is hard.

As for the light in the room. It faces North so doesn't get direct sunlight. It more of a glow from the outside than direct light. That is why I was thinking of a brighter color to keep the room from being too dark.

Any recommendations?

Perhaps a sagey gray green? Is it truly purple or more of a cordovan color (which is how it reads on my monitor)? If it's a cordovan, one could do a lot of things to make it work if you like the color. I have a F&B color called "Pelt" in my guest room. I used white woodwork, white bed spreads, and yellow/white plaid taffeta for festoon blinds, dust ruffles and headboards. It looks fabulous.

I think the colors currently on the walls work fine. I might suggest however that you remove all the small understated wall and sparsely spaced pieces replacing larger more intentional ones for impact. If you opt to keep the art and pictures on the walls they need to come down to eye level height. Rather than painting entire walls you could paint the transitional walls like a bridge (the one by the stairs and the one by the front door). You could go with a latte, coral, grey, or gold. Have you considered a pretty white? That would probably look better with beige furniture. BM Swiss Coffee, White Dove and Chantilly Lace are all nice possibilities.

Looking for paint color recommendations for this wall to brighten up the space. the carpet is really more like a beige even though its not showing like that. what specific paint colors would you recommend? mock ups would be appreciated if possible. its so hard looking at a little sample to visualize the space... the room is a work in progress....thanks in advance for your help!

Your color cues should come from your rug, as it is the largest element and will tie everything together. When I zoom into the rug I can see some light blues and greens. BM Wickham Gray is a pale, low-chroma, near-neutral from the Green-Yellow Hue family. Depending on your light it might lean more blue or more green. It might not be exactly what you are looking for, but it gives you a start. Look at your rug, and tone down the colors you pull from it for your wall . From there you can pick the color for your chairs, perhaps a deep green, or blue, also in your rug. Pillows and art that include to rug colors will bridge the two sides together. And if you are brave enough, bring one of your color choices into the dining room chairs.

The rug is beautiful. I also agree with simplechoices. Pick your colors from your rug. It will look really nice when you are done. Dont forget, you will need pillows and window treatments too.
