It appears from the top photo, and in the bottom photo (only on the upper part of the walls) that the wall paint has a green undertone. A green undertone will make the pink undertone of the carpet stand out more. [I'm not sure how to correct this though. I think you need to use complimentary color undertones. In the case of pink, it would be light purple or light orange undertones. But I'm not sure. That is actually what I am looking for right now; how to correct pink bathroom tile undertones. I just happen to come across this website.]

Thank you so much for the responses! I fretted about it overnight, but decided this morning my main goal was for it to withstand the boys, their friends, and the dog, and I think of all the colors I considered, this was the one that would do that. And, it's not the end of the world if it is not the perfect choice. I always second guess myself in decorating, and it usually ends up fine. Trying to keep it in perspective:) sueb20, you have reassured me so much! Your basement is beautiful - I'll be thrilled if ours ends up looking close to that! I'm envious of your stairs - love the hardwood. I even thought about putting laminate in the basement (that is how much I dislike carpet - carpet never feels "clean" to me). Did you build your media area? If not, where did you get it - I love it. The cords and components are a fact of teenage life, but yours is contained and organized - yay! I had to laugh when I saw all of the "guitars" in the basket..I can't wait to get ours out of the upstairs family room. Busybee3, I originally intended to get a flecked carpet, as I definitely think it would hide the most. Laying out all the samples, the flecks just weren't speaking to me - go figure. Love the idea of a sage carpet - my favorite decorating color! braider, thanks for the link - very useful for me to have in the future!

Unfortunately, with such a strong color, that rug is always going to be in your face and look out of proportion. Sometimes less is more. IMO, you have too many pillows already. But that said, why not find a rug that has 3 or more colors in it. Then you can use those colors over and over with accessories to balance out the room. See how the colors in this rug are repeated on the sofa? Also, even the rug in this picture is IMO, a little small, ideally, you want the rug to be large enough that the fronts of your furniture sit on it. Again, in this picture you can see where the colors are repeated. The red is played down, it’s there and it’s pretty but it isn’t so much in your face so the room is more neutral.
