Hate the new paint in the family room, help!
Comments (5)Thanks for the advice for where to post - I figured the "paint" forum was the most relevant and I didn't want to get in "trouble" for posting in the wrong spot! I asked him to bring new samples and he's re-taping some of the trim now. I was upset about it every time I walked by the room so I figured it's better to repaint now when the prep is basically all done than to wait and have to redo all of that....See MoreFAmily Room pics - mirror above couch?
Comments (23)I have to be on top of the sofa to take the picture b/c I have no evening sun left.. I will take a picture tomorrow in the AM for the full effect. you have been SO helpful!! I was THINKING of taking down those boy/girl pics by the gold chair and using the long white bowl shelf that was ORIGINALLY above the sofa where the boy/girl prints are currently and I have a few small gameboards stashed away I could incorporate on this shelf. I just have to have my hubby help me there to see if I would knock myself out on the shelf getting out of the chair! He is playing hockey now but I will rope him into that tomorrow. Thanks a million for the help and hope you check back in for the final result tomorrow! :)...See MoreHigh quality, long lasting USA made sofas for a family room?
Comments (26)I don't have any experience with the brands you mentioned, but we are thrilled with the quality and durability of our Stickley sofas. We have the Prairie Settle sofa and love seat in leather (with exposed wood frame), but they have many fabric options as well. We have cats, and it's great not to have to worry about them clawing the fabric like they did with our previous sofas. All of our Stickley pieces have stood up amazingly to kids, pets, and daily heavy use. They are made in America and while they're not cheap, I'm confident they will outlive us so we will never have to replace them. We have had them for about 13 years and they look as good as new. My husband wipes them down with leather conditioner about every other month and there is a slight patina on the leather where we sit on them, but it doesn't detract from the look at all. The wood is so hard it doesn't get dented and scratched from things banging into it....See MoreHelp choosing a couch and tables for a rectangular family room
Comments (6)Suggest looking at lots of inspiration pictures to decide on a direction and have a plan before making changes. Here are some ideas and you can always make changes slowly. - A lighter, neutral couch would be a good choice and place your chairs facing each other. Would feel similar to room below; lighter and larger. - Incorporate blue (that compliments chairs) with new cushions and/or rug choices. If a light couch is not practical, consider blue. Neutral lumbar cushions on your two chairs for a more modern and better proportioned feel. Remove the pictures by window and valance (feel dated and busy) and add a long rod so drapes rest on the walls (IKEA has great prices and lots of choices). Accessories: Consider a collage (try IKEA) over couch to create more balance and interest (and move what have to dining room. I’d paint the couch’s side table and floor lamp a crisper white and update shades to a drum white style, per above pictures. Dining room: The chairs feel beachy and suggest painting them black for a more contemporary feel. A rug could also ground the room....See Morelobo_93
