Backsplash Marble subway tile question
Comments (14)Sewnice: You might be able to get the best of both worlds if you maybe find complimenting tiles...in different materials. Maybe for the majority of the kitchen do the carrera and then for behind the stove you could use a different but complimentary stone that wouldn't have the staining properties that marble does. I know they make soapstone subways at M. Tex (I saw them when I was there). You could maybe put those behind the stove, with the marble everywhere else. Or, you can put a tray behind the stove like I did. I didn't put it there for that reason, but I think if I ever did splash something like tomato sauce or the like, it would be better protected than with nothing there. But again, I did seal mine...which should provide some level of protection. Thanks so much for the compliment...I walk in to our kitchen and smile...I never thought with all the different components involved that it could turn out exactly how I pictured....See MoreAnyone tired of their white subway tile backsplash yet?
Comments (53)Just giving my 2018 take on subway tile - I am definitely bored of it, mostly because I see it absolutely everywhere in bathroom and kitchen photos. The bathrooms with subway tile from floor to ceiling are especially puzzling/irritating. Varying width/length mosaic tile has been in fashion for the last several years and there's a lot of variety there - hopefully I won't get bored of that too soon but it can indeed look too busy. My style is a European look with American practicality - simple lines and a luxury look BUT lots of drawers/cabinet space and real wood, no weird stuff like wall-hung toilets, Edison lamps, or old-timey faucets....See MorePlain tile backsplash, or a decorative piece over cooktop?
Comments (25)Well, that was easy, LOL. White! I think the pink tone must be a screen thing, since it's not reading pink irl. Thank you all for weighing in, and thank you for the kind words about our family. We were able to enjoy a sweet celebration with each other. My momma heart was touched to see all the thought and hard work that the kiddos put into the gifts that they made or got for their sister. I got choked up seeing how much they love each other. I'm so grateful for each and every one of them. And, you all can jump in and join the fun any time. The more the merrier! : ) (I removed the family pics. DH wasn't keen with having them up.) It would be cool to prop up a sample tiled decorative piece, but I have no such thing. I was talking with one of my daughters and a friend the other day about adding some decorative tile details. The brought up that more grooves might be harder to clean, where a totally subway tiled area would be a cinch to wipe down. I like cinches. If I had to take a scrub brush to a tiled frame behind the cooktop in order to clean out all the grooves, it would not be pleasant. DIY can be so much fun, and they are some of my favorite kitchens to keep an eye on here. The mega kitchens are wonderful for drooling on, but seeing a kitchen that a family has worked on themselves, leaving their special mark, is inspiring and heartwarming to me. I came across this one one the Finished Kitchen Blog while searching for white subway tiles the other day. It's full of ingenuity. We DIYed our last kitchen as well. It can be seen here. Like Funkycamper said, we DIYers are here quietly cheering each other on. It just takes us a little longer to finish up sometimes. ; ) So, you are not alone diymom. Hopefully you'll share your progress with us!...See MoreBacksplash help: subway tile.
Comments (101)Daina L, there is a Cancos store in NJ - 7 Elkins Road East Brunswick, NJ 08816. If you're not too far I would stop by. You seem to be settling on a tile. I thought I had picked the perfect tile and while waiting for a price I kept looking. Then I found the tile I used. There was no doubt in mind that I found it - both price and color. It's very frustrating - I remember making choices throughout the remodel, thinking I just got over the hardest, to then face another "hardest". But it does come together. I'm sure your kitchen will look great and you will love it. Please keep us posted....See MoreMittens Cat
