Professional opinion on “vintage” polyester rugs

I live in an old home with some original moulding and details but have contemporary/mid century modern taste. (Mixture of vintage furniture and new pieces from places like article, CB2 and rove concepts.)

I tend to hold my nose up at fakes and prefer the character of real wood and natural textures. However, since it’s a acquires a 10 x 14’ rug I’m tempted to throw a very large distressed looking Persian style rug in our living room as the cost differential between a polyester rug and an original wool rug is 5x - 10x.

I can’t seem to pull the trigger though as I am afraid of a huge mistake (not just the cost but more just having to get rid of something so large because It didn’t suit my “taste” :-)

I’ve seen the same rugs as everyone else on Wayfare etc. that look pretty good in the photos.

What is a professional opinion on how these things end up playing out in real life?
