Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams - what did you pick/why?
Comments (14)I'm pretty sure that our local paint store that carries BM, Pratt & Lambert, Yolo and Ralph Lauren brands is locally owned not company owned. We always get great service. More often than not, it's my go-to place for paint. I've also used Rodda, Kelly Moore, Miller and SW. Our home's exterior is painted with SW, chosen because I saw the color on a local home, loved it and the homeowner was gracious enough to tell me the color and brand. I received great service when I sampled a quart and selected a complimentary colors for the trim and door. However, we did have a problem with the paint job that began with a SW's mixing error. One 5-gallon bucket was slightly off in match from the other buckets. We checked the cans and the formula label says the cans were mixed the same way but somehow or other, they were not. That error was compounded by idiot painters who didn't know enough to mix paint from new cans with open cans. Because they didn't and because the paint match was off, touch-ups on our house looked like polka dots. The painters had to go back and paint the whole length of a board and we'll have to do the same any time we touch up. These same idiot painters painted our front door while it was closed! Yeah, we made them re-do it. Twice. And it still wasn't great. They then had the nerve to ask if they could bid on interior paint work. Over my dead body! But I digress. This was an isolated experience with SW and it sounds as though it's not the norm - that's good to hear - but it does make me hesitate about using their paint again....See MoreFor those of you familiar with Sherwin Williams paint
Comments (14)I've only ever used SW Harmony when painting myself (for a newly finished basement a few years ago--primer and 2 coats of paint during middle of winter and the lack of smell was great!). Not having had previous painting experience before, I don't have anything to compare it against, but I thought Harmony was easy to work with and looked great (after getting great painting technique tips here and the hgtv forum). Now I have a question....I think I used a satin in the Harmony line. Is Duration Matte less shiny than that? In our new house, the bldr painted everything flat, and I already have places that need wiping/cleaning, but I can't. I need to start re-painting some rooms, and also need a low sheen because I don't think the drywallers did a very good job in sanding the seams in a couple of rooms. Thanks!...See MoreSherwin Williams Paint Advice Needed - Paint Line and Sheen Questions
Comments (5)ProMar200 Zero is decent paint. I painted my house with the Eggshell (supposed to be Satin?) sheen over Level 5 smooth walls and love the look. This was a remodeled house with all new gypsum board. I have little kids that literally bounce off the walls and the paint is holding up well and touches up very well. The walls have seen dirty little fingers, pencil marks, a bit of blood from nosebleeds, impacts from flying toys,... you name it. It is certainly not top-of-the-line, of course. Cashmere is better quality than ProMar. I would personally do low lustre or pearl everywhere, but that's only assuming your drywaller leaves a perfect substrate. I'm not a fan of "flat" walls. Some SW products have less sheen than stated, but Cashmere is actually higher in sheen. Paint a 2'x2' sample on your wall before committing to a sheen. Good luck....See MoreWhich Sherwin Williams interior paint do you use?
Comments (7)Also usually a BM loyalist (Regal Select is my fave), but just recently broke with that and used SW Emerald interior matte to repaint a bedroom the previous owners had painted a DARK, almost black Navy. The Emerald was recommended for covering the dark with a much lighter color (Sea Salt) and since the coupon brought the original crazy high price to the same/equal to what I usually spend on BM Regal, I went with it. I was (am) impressed with the coverage and the paint formula in general, 2 coats and the navy was nowhere to be seen....See More3katz4me
