Not sure what you have going on there, but I sell about three hundred leather pieces a year and never come across peeling like that. Usually there are only two things that can cause that. 1 ) Something was applied to the leather that caused a severe chemical reaction and the topcoat is stripping off 2 ) This is common to see on bi-cast or bonded leather. Let's explore what bonded / bi cast "leather" actually is: When leather upholstery is produced at an upholstery maker they save the hide salvage. Appx 1/3 of the hide is scrap on a build ue to wrinkles, scars, marking, or being on the edges. If they can. they make swatch samples out of the remnants. Otherwise, they all go in the "Bins" which are in the cutting room of factories. Here's a set of "Bins" at Hancock and Moore's factory in Taylorsville NC. These are sold to a company that goes around to all the leather upholstery makers in an area and bins are picked up every two weeks or so. They are then put into a container and shipped to China for processing. Once they arrive at their destination, they are chemically melted into a leather slurry and bonded to a polypropylene sheet, then embossed with a grain pattern, painted and topcoated. These are then sold as either bonder or bicast leather. There is no benefit of real leather any more as the cellulose structure genuine top grain leather has been destroyed in the melt process. Bonded and Bicast leathers don't have much longevity and tend to "Strip" away like you are seeing in your photos. Neiman Marcus is a reputable company, I would suggest you start by contacting the Store Manager in person if possible. If these units are only two years old they should go to bat for you, they are the selling agent and have a duty to respond and interact with the manufacturer on your behalf. Find out what you really have for a cover and then what they will do for you. As long as you did not' apply something to the units that would cause that, they should take care of in some form or manner. Good luck

I had a new custom sofa covered in velvet. The fabric did not wear well at all. It looked worn within a few months, even though it got little use When I complained I was told that velvet always wears poorly, and I'd agreed with the decorator's suggestion of velvet, so too bad. The shape of the back and arms, and cushion stuffing, were also very uncomfortable. I got rid of it as soon as possible, even thought it was sold to me as a forever piece, at a "forever piece" price.

Perrennials ia a 100 % solution dyed acrylic.fabric . It seems Revolution is polypropylene. Two different things. All solution dyed fabrics .........indoor/outdoor usually, bleach capabilities etc. are more costly. The cost is made up by performance and easy care. It's a fast growing category, as textures mime that of indoor only fabrics. Matters not whether from Thibault, Kravet, Schumacher.......wherever.. There are plenty to select from, but all with the feel and look of indoor textures will be more $$$. In any case, get the fabric you will love for a long time, on a quality sofa. Which mean a support system of eight way hand tied construction, spring down cushioning etc. Don't make the mistake of the high priced spread, on a frame that will not compare in quality with the fabric that tops it.

I am currently working on choosing fabrics from a different brand and there are a few factors to consider with choosing fabric that I've learned about. There may be others that some of the pros can share. Double rubcount - This defines how durable the fabric is. You want something at least 15,000 for heavily used upholstery like family room sofa. Higher is more durable. I am aiming to get at least 30,000. Content - Fabrics like polyester or olefin are usually more durable than fabrics like linen. There are probably exceptions. I've heard that linen is inclined to fade. Cleaning code - Determines how you can clean or spot clean fabric. Pill rating - Some fabrics have pill rating to determine how likely the fabric is to pill with use. Texture - Texture can impact how a fabric performs in a home. For example, some textures will attract pet hair more than others. Stain resistance - Some fabrics will list if they are stain resistant or liquid repellant. This might be important if you tend to have a lot of spills. I see Pottery Barn does list the rubcount on the fabrics, so start there. Looks like both the Crossweave and Velvet fabrics have a very high rubcount listed. For the record, I have never owned a Pottery Barn upholstery item. I love the look of them, but was not happy with the comfort of many that I sat on in the store and am not impressed with their construction.
