My Hosta Garden in June 2020
Comments (30)utog..I'm inside enjoying your photos..we had a nice rain and my yard is too soaked for strolling..my Blue Mouse Ears have heaved..I was surprised to hear they do that to you too..your climate is milder than mine..I love Lemontini in the cobalt pot..I like lime with blue..I'm going to Google Shooting Star hydrangea..I was thinking it's a macrophylla..which don't work here..I agree that Paradise Glory is glorious.....See MoreHosta M 2020 ...................
Comments (38)Steve you would be correct about Magic Island......it’s in total shade. Can it handle the sun? I have thought of relocating it. I have a number of hostas along a fence line on the south side of the yard. I should probably move most of them.......Wheee, Island Breeze, Magic Island, Prairie Sky, LS Paisley Print.......they are all doing ok, but would have better color with a bit of sun probably. debra...See MoreHosta Progression 2020
Comments (34)I spend hours in the winter comparing hostas side by side using the Hosta compare tool Hosta Library Compare. Then I sleep on it, order some more and then compare them. It may sound tedious, but I enjoy it. The next year, I may decide to move some (especially poor performers) or ones needing different sun exposures and do some more comparing. Generally, the ones I buy the same year are grouped together. By the end of it, my mind is spinning and I don't have the foggiest idea what looks good together (I'm still not sure). Thanks for confirming I must be doing something right. This year I ordered a number of light centered Hostas (like last year, lol). I'm thinking of grouping these 5 together: Hearts On Fire, Prime Meridian, Cherokee, Proud Peacock and Marshmallow Sky. It may seem counter intuitive, but I think they are different enough to complement each other without being distracting (I hope). It looks better than this (to me) in the tool, but you get the idea. Will it work? Stay tuned....See MoreHosta Seedlings and Sports 2020
Comments (26)Excellent! Hosta Maker shows up with some very promising youngsters. What's worse, having something interesting that's already out there, or having something interesting that just doesn't grow? Do you still use it for breeding? Here's a pic of the Hosta Volunteer Nursery. I think a bunch are from Dancing Queen.A seedling from a streaker found at Cory's Wildflower GardensIt looks like I may need to split it already to save the streaky part. Or is it not worth the effort if it is stabilizing so quickly? Kaleidochrome seedling Valley's Top seedling planted in too much sun. Now where did I move that to? Flash Of Light tet x Lakeside Sir Logan planted in full sun (and also moved later, but not because it needed it....See MorePieter zone 7/8 B.C.
