ring..... ring.....calling Bill V.
Comments (107)Bill, Did you think I was finished asking questions??? Of course not. Tomorrow I'm sealing the grout. I have a white cast iron tub I want to protect. Should I put the plywood over the tub while I seal? Would it be better to take off the plywood and try and cover the tub with towels. SCI said I had to spray it on and not roll it or use a rag. It will run down to the tub so how do I protect it? Will it damage the finish if it gets on the bathtub? I know this is a simple question but look what happened when I got involved with my grout application. Donna...See MoreWhere to buy ceramic locking ring for pendant light?

Comments (8)My GC and I have shared this responsibility, although I accept that our arrangement has perhaps been a little non-standard. One of the ways he has kept within my budget was to find stuff - quality, brand names - at HEAVY discount either as salvage, auction, whatever and that kept his material costs downs (he got our high end polyacyanawhatchmacallit insulation that way, at a local building-materials salvage yard, also the brand-name, brand-new windows he put in the attic which I believe he got for about $20 each when somebody sold them after purchasing and then not using them for a project). From the get-go our agreement was that as long as the materials he used were quality (and legal!) I didn't care how he aqcuired them. So far, no complaints. Otoh, I have picked out all the things that really mattered to me and he deducts those costs from our fixed bid agreement. Cabinets, floor tile, wall tile, paint, counter, light fittings etc. And I've been happy to help keep the costs down - I don't have a problem with it going into HIS pocket instead of a big box store, eg when I picked out the paint and laminate for our attic I had a 10% off coupon for Lowes and used it - the ACTUAL cost will be what we deduct. He's doing a LOT of work for a very reasonable fee (perhaps even undercharging a bit) so I feel like it's only fair to return the favour wherever possible. So, I guess the short answer is this: for things that really matter to you, pick them out yourself. For things that he can get cheaper or more easily - hopefully passing the savings on to you - let him do so. Just my 2c....See MoreBuy already prepared topiary cone or shape myself?
Comments (12)Some of my topiari that will shortly need a trim...the cones are straight forward decide on size and shape and use a strimmers for the big bits and hand shears for the delicate bits..for cones you can either judge by eye or use some lengths of thin bamboo in a tee pee shape tied together at the top to give you a guide to cut to...if you are ambitious enough to try a spiral then tie a ribbon or string to the top drape it around the plant in a circular descending motion to the Base..and cut into the plant just above the line of your string...I got a great buzz out of doing it myself as opposed to buying them...there are quiet a few good instructional videos on YouTube about how to do it yourself worth checking out...Happy gardening.......See Moremaire_cate
