You don't want dark floors unless you live in a house with no dust or a full time housekeeper, or you don't care if the floor shows dirt. I like no carpet, too. I'd either replace everything with hardwood in a similar, natural colored finish (no crazy greys or ebony), or carry what you already have in the kitchen into the rest of the house.

nothing beats the look of natural wood floors. do oak if you like.

all of these kitchens have similar oak cabs like yours. the first two are regular oak floors

this one looks to be a laminate, in a slight darker tone. (get the real oak flooring)

and if you want to paint the cabs down the road, the oak will look beautiful w/the white cabs (or whatever color)

Do a nice white oak flooring. there are a million varieties right now. solid, engineered, narrow, wide, french oak, etc. go get some samples and bring them home.

Flooring is a big investment and should last a lifetime. vinyl will not. hardwood floors will always bring more in resale than vinyl floors. a good hardwood can standup to everything. ( you still see 100 year old wood floors in homes)

@Chessie Sorry, by seamless I meant I want the same flooring to run into each room. (with maybe the exception of bedrooms)

@HALLETT & Co. The flooring in the entirety of the upper level. I was hoping to have the same flooring in all areas other than the bedrooms. I may do carpet for that.

we don't know what "upper level" means -- are the kitchen and living room on the upper level? if not, then you don't really need to match anything. if so, then you need to replace everything or match what you have. you could easily go a few shades darker than your cabinets -- contrast is preferable to such a close match -- but I think if you go super dark, you'll be sad about how much light it sucks out of your currently airy space.

This is super easy. Remove the kitchen flooring and start over with a medium brown. Should be no problem. Think the colour of your ceiling fan. Or a snick lighter. Should be no problem.

No laminate - I'd remove the laminate in the kitchen and replace the flooring with hardwood.

@acm I'm sorry for being vague, I thought my pictures demonstrated how the rooms flowed together on one level. Yes, living room, dining room and kitchen are all on the same level in a fairly open concept ranch. Thank you for the advice and examples. I think you're probably right about going too dark. I appreciate the help!

I think I found the solution.

It's pretty and on the right track but it is still a bit dark for my personal taste. It does darken the space quite a bit. Are you going to be using a lot of rugs?

I like dark floors. Mine are VERY dark don't look dirty ever, but they are handscraped and distressed which I think hides a lot of sins. They do darken the space. I think the mid-tone floors you just posted look pretty good. I would do the whole space if at all possible - don't leave the laminate in the kitchen.

I don't care for wood or wood look in the kitchen, and I don't like dark flooring of any kind.

That said, that flooring in that picture looks pretty nice actually. Kind of a blend.

These floors run throughout our ranch home, even the bedrooms.

They’re a blend of two stains...not too light, not too dark.
