Kitchen cabinet colors with 2 different quartz countertops

How to go about choosing a color when there are 2 different countertop colors? The dark brown quartz (Belenco Mocato Brown) countertops have white cabinets and the white quartz (Sarstone) countertops have brown cabinets. I would like to paint the cabinets. Not white or grey. I also STRONGLY dislike the backsplash. I can not afford to remove it so I will have to live with it or go with a peel and stick solution. I also want to change the pendant lights. Initially, I was only going to paint the dark cabinets and leave the white cabinets as is but I changed my mind.

The kitchen is open to the dining room, which is open to the living room. I also have to choose a wall color. I want the space to be bright and colorful but I can tend to over-do it and would like some ideas.

Are the cabinets wood? If so, refinishing them to a natural wood could look really beautiful with both color counters, and it would give you the freedom to play with color with the walls/decor.

You’re right on, about the backsplash. Changing that...when you are able...will make a huge difference. I would leave the cabs as is, until you can make that change, as the backsplash is intrinsic to the color scheme. Fortunately, you have plenty of natural light, so the few dark wood cabs do not “suck the light out of the room,” as is so often said on this forum.

Suggestion...get light rails for the base of the cabinets, to obscure the view of the under cab lights.

No one can begin to try to help you design a kitchen without a drawing of the room. I'll just say that the room sounds much too wide for a reasonable galley design and leave it at that. If the counter is small that would be an excellent reason to use an expensive attractive and serviceable material like granite or stainless steel. I would never put ceramic tile in a food preparation area because it is an unpleasantly uneven surface and is impossible to properly clean (not allowed in commercial kitchens for that reason). I did put one foot squares of granite tile with tight caulked joints in a kitchen once but only because the owner had 5 boys, had just lost his wife, and was on a very tight budget. It was intended to be temporary but many years later it was the only thing in the kitchen that still looked usable.

Thanks all. In the sample I touched (I ordered one of my own) the pure white quartz really did read as porcelain enamel. However, I am very hesitant to act as a guinea pig. I realize Corian has a proven record of being easy to design around, but it just feels too plasticky. It doesn't bother me in the Rain Cloud pattern but that won't work for the look I want. I've already spoken to the Custom Ceramic Coatings guy, who does a lot of porcelain enamel work for stove restorers and such. They are almost the only game in town for small custom projects. However, that requires a lot of time and a lot of shipping clear across the country for a 3 x 6 countertop. On top of which, this top needs to accommodate water-impervious cutouts for sinks, faucets and whatnot. I was hoping to stumble across someone who had actually done this, but considering the fact that there are zero pictures on the Web, chances are slim.

No worries. I should have been clearer. We are getting painted cabinets and we have the choice of any color. Grey Owl looked really nice as a painted cabinet but I thought the Ella quartz would look better with a warmer gray. We will definitely test out the Repose Gray.

Is there any way you can get a sample of the White Zeus before you commit to buying it? The reason I ask is that there are a lot of complaints about white staining. You can search this site and find several threads about it, and the best advice is to get a sample and test it out for yourself. I did this when I was considering white quartz, and while I was not considering White Zeus, one of my samples did not pass my stain test in that I had trouble getting plain yellow mustard off it. I wound up going with a more mottled/chunky looking quartz that had white but wasn't plain white. You may also want to consider Glacier White Corian if you want that European look. I am unsure of the thickness it comes in though.

Absolutely what darbuka said. Start with the backsplash. What you have there now is too bossy and is the focal point.

I'd just paint the uppers at the side by wine fridge ..white to match the back wall of cabinets....this will make a difference and the other areas can remain white/dark in fact it is a space that can handle the two finishes. Replace backsplash if you can . Once you get some stools for seating that will help the appearance along that backside. Do you plan to use the seating area? So if minimal use, I'd still get stools.
