Happy New Year! I have Super White Quartzite in my kitchen for 7 years. IMO it is as durable as granite. It does not etch or stain. Extremely durable. You will love it!

SAME situation! Wondering if those of you who have it love it or if they are a hot mess. We fell in love with a slab but it doesn't look like the typical Super White dolomite that other people have posted (whatever typical is lol)

I am in the same situation - I fell in love with Super White but was warned it is prone to scratching and etching (similar to marble which I already considered but decided I don't want the hassle). I have two samples (one polished and one leathered) of the Super White. Fingers crossed that I can test them without problems. Otherwise I'm going in a totally different direction with Copacabana granite.

Hi Kathleen, Let me know how your testing goes. I have two slabs of polished Calacatta Super White on hold.

Sue - I tested the Super White and will go with granite instead. I absolutely love the look of Super White, but it etched quickly on the samples I have (lemon juice, vinegar). I have a 6 year old son and a messy husband and if I choose this I will end up being the countertop police in my house!

Just to update for Sue: We decided to go for it with the "Fantasy White" dolomite slab which is also sometimes referred to as Super White. We've had it installed for just 2 weeks now so I can't speak to the durability BUT I'd say you'd just have to know yourself. For instance, my husband and I (with 3 teen boys) are a bit on the 'tightly wound' side ;) so I know that we'll clean up spills ASAP, always use cutting boards, etc. so I *think* we'll be okay. I am nervous about chipping around the sink which is what others have complained about so we know to just be extra careful when it comes to washing large pots & pans. This is probably not helpful to you whatsoever but thought that I'd at least update ya on what we decided! What did you guys end up doing?

Thanks for the update May G. We are finally getting our lower cabinets installed next week. So we hope to have counter tops by the beginning of April. Time to order new cutting boards!

Sink chipping is more related to edge profile selection than material. Your fabricator prefers the pencil edge, your designer may have specified it, because it's fast, therefore cheap, and a moneymaker.

Sinks should have a 1/4" radius minimum. More is better.

How’s everyone’s super white holding up? It’s by far our favorite stone and the sample I have is holding up decent to the tests I am putting it through. We are fine to baby the countertop a bit and reseal as often as needed but also have a kid so can’t be too nuts. We plan to do it on island and perimeter and backsplash. Thinking about super light grey cabinets but not totally sure. If anyone did the super white pls post pics!

I’m looking at this stone also. Would love to see your kitchens with it installed. We are using the same stone on our island, perimeter countertops and backsplash. Is that too much for this stone with it’s pattern or do you all think that still works well? I want a kitchen stone that looks amazing! 😆

Sorry i didn't see this thread earlier. We had SW installed in our new build in 2014 in the kitchen, master bath and powder room. Three slabs worth. Yes, they claimed it was quartzite, and I knew different, but had my heart set on this beautiful stone. Almost 8 years later, it has stood up very well. I have one etch by the sink that appeared in year two. There is also some scratching here and there, but nothing I get bothered by. Overall, I’m extremely happy with our decision.

I just saw this thread. We had super white counters installed in a large kitchen and also our master bath. Love them! I am an avid cook and baker and make gargantuous messes and spills and the counters wipe clean, no matter what. They are as lovely as the day I saw the slabs. Shiny and silvery and gorgeous. For anyone who has seen super white and fallen in love, you'll never regret having this stunning stone under your hand every day.

Why is it that some SW etches and other slabs do not? Is it about how careful the user is or about where in the quarry the stone is cut from?? I love SW but am hesitant to go for it because I am someone that notices everything and don’t want to be obsessing about my countertop!

@drwass I can't answer about why some etches and why some doesn't. It was a comment someone else wrote that stopped me in my tracks. The observation that marble, in all its etching and staining beauty, has been in place for hundreds of years across the world and the imperfections are part of its unique beauty. I thought about that. We have solid bronze hardware and it's a 'living finish'. I love that, knowing that over time, the touch of our hands, the hands of loved ones and friends, new and old, will have left a mark of time, and laughs and dinners and sourdough baking, fall stews, card game suppers....all a testament to LIVING, life, love, laughter, friends and family. I see my gorgeous and stunning super white the same. it may etch or eventually stain but if it does, I'll see it as a mark of how well we lived and loved. The same as those laugh lines and crinkles on my face.

I’ve had super white for going on 10 years the only thing that has stained it is turmeric and I’ve been able to buff out those stains and the only thing that’s etched is lemon juice and similarly I’ve buffed around it and and used a polishing cleaner and you can no longer see that etch. On the other hand, I’ve had carrera marble in my bathroom for 7 years and everything stains it - even leaving water or a drop of plain hand soap on it for too long and it’ll develop dark marks.
