Comments (3)Yep...anything with latex resins, or even Latex/Poly-Alkyd hybrid-resins like CC takes a month to harden-off. Doesn't really matter what paint it is in a way...the right kind of "whack" WILL show up! You could then employ the old "steam-iron thru a folded cloth" trick though! Comments (7)HI -- To me that is not a mantel , it is a shelf . Put a wood beam on for a mantel or find an antique one or have a carpenter make a substantial wood mantel . Just because all the trims get painted white does not mean that should include the mantel . The mantel is it's own feature ....See Morehelp updating interior millwork

Comments (4)The sanding needed to paint the trim is different than the sanding used to finish wood. When finishing, you need to have a smooth, even surface without any trace of preexisting finish. When preparing a surface for paint, you need a clean, secure surface that the primer can attach to which does not need to be bare wood. I prefer to use the term "scuff" rather than sand because you use a rougher grit to make miniature cuts or grooves in the surface for the primer to catch. You need a clean surface which means no dust, grease, wax or other substance to endanger the bond and you need to remove any coating which is not securely attached so any flaking or peeling coating must go. Other than that, you don't need to sand first. I fix large areas before primer but the majority of the fixing problem areas comes after the first round of primer for me. At that point, it is easier to see how the surface defect will show through and sometimes the surface mark is less. noticeable if you don't try to fix it. If you are doing an expensive piece of furniture or a high end paint job, expect to spend lots of time and effort on preparing a flawless surface, otherwise be realistic....See MoreRelated Professionals
