Art above new flat screen TV
Comments (11)I had the same problem with my tv.. and I ended up buying a taller console. I don't like anything "busy" around the viewing screen. Lifting the screen was perfect and made a big difference. Plus, I like the viewing angle better now too. An idea for your mantle-- I have two pictures resting on the mantle but overlapping. My situation/tastes are a little different but I think the basic idea could still work for you. Both my prints are matted with a lot of "white space" and they are somewhat related (both are B&W. One is a landscape and the other a tree) I also have a vase on the mantle with.. hahah don't laugh.. interesting "sticks" from the yard-- one of which hangs over the artwork. I think it pulls together pretty well and it addresses a big design hurdle (the entire wall above the mantle is a mirror plate). Your room is really cozy and personal.. I think you'll be very happy with a painting your daughter made just for you. In the meantime I think adding some height and matting your existing prints and putting them in larger frames will definitely make the mantle area more visually interesting. Good luck!...See Moresuggestions for art above the tv area
Comments (11)I think the t.v. is fine alone as it's for viewing and you have that gorgeous fireplace that should be the focal point but it' isn't as it needs a very large piece of art and not smaller multiples. The art needn't have to hang as I know it's difficult on fieldstone but it can be done, it can lean on the mantle. Even a large mirror would look good and I agree about the area rug. Find something that will fill the space between the couch and the chair, from that rug take a color and put it in the room elsewhere via a throw or pillows etc. Perhaps you could also bounce color in to the dining area. I don't mind the drapes. Can you tell us what colors you like? Your home is very nice but looks a little cool so you just need to warm it up a bit. I'd love to see a nice size end table for drinks and books etc. and some substantial lighting. Outside of the little lamp near the hearth I don't see any lighting which is one way to add warmth. Perhaps a standing one to the right of the chair near the tv. and a nice table between the sofa and chair....See MoreArt or No Art, that is the question?
Comments (23)Thanks for all the great ideas. I would like all the furniture pieces to stay in the room, plus no other spot in the home for them. I am going to move the dresser under the window and move the chest of drawers to the wall where the dresser currently is and see how that looks and feels. TV may have to go as it is rarely used anyway. Not having a mirror over the dresser will be a change for me, lol. neverbedone - thanks for the picture, it really takes care of the space below the window and looks nice and neat. Olychick - Could I used draperies that match the current color of my Roman shades? I do want to keep them as they let light into a drab north/east room. Mrs S. - You are right, moving the chest of drawers would definitely give us some extra space when walking into the room and in front of the bed. TV not used much and it may go out of the room. RITA - Not looking for actually suggestions for art, just sizes and a pleasing placement on the wall. If I move the furniture pieces as suggested above, I may be able to also hang a piece above the chest of drawers. Again, thanks for all your suggestions, they have opened my eyes to new possibilities with the room....See MoreWall art for sides of 75in TV in living area
Comments (44)rosemarynjf I LOVE the way you held your own through the suggestions. Your white trim boxes are inspired and does just what you hoped, fills a huge blank nothing!! Good job. Glad you are keeping your antique asian table. It amazes me how seldom people are able to focus on the request of the OP and choose to redesign the entire home/space. When I first read your question I thought "shop your house". What do you already have that will work? What you choose has to be things you love--your taste not someone else's. Other wise the answer is to take your time. As you live life something will appear that you are drawn too and will be the proper pieces!!...See MoreRelated Professionals
