What color compliments a dark hardwood floor

I put a fairly dark hardwood floor in my living room, hall, and kitchen about five years ago. Now i am looking to put hardwood in the bedrooms. i am looking for a color of hardwood that would compliment or would look good in transition.

also note, the guest bedrooms are painted a light gray color, and i would like to paint my master a pale blue

Why not keep the color you have in your living room, etc., through to this room. Dark hard wood looks great with pale blue.

They dont make the floor i currently have anymore. Im afraid it will either be too hard to match or another dark floor wont look good

Well hope I'm not too late but....we installed Brazillian Walnut in our kitchen and dining room and we've been really happy with it. I don't have the problem of everything showing on this floor any more than on the oak we have in some other areas. The planks have some variation in color so maybe that's why. This is a very solid hard (like teak) wood. We got it at Lumber Liquidators (Bella wood) and installed it ourselves, but they have installers they can recommend too (if you don't have one already). The first is a more recent pic, the floor is 10 years old. One huge plus with this particular floor is that it is not stained, it's this color all the way through so it will always look like this. When the time comes all we have to do is lightly sand it and revarnish. No staining involved. Furniture wise, our house insn't real large, so we just have pieces we love, an old farm table I've refurbished and an old cabinet both painted white. I don't think a floor type necessarily limits you, especially if it's wood.

Family friendly options that aren't dark: -Microfiber has the reputation of being easy to clean. -You could get a slipcover sofa. These are easy to find at places like Potter Barn and Crate and Barrel and don't look schlumpy like an aftermarket slipcover (although it's generally a more casual look that a regular sofa). -You could get something with patterned upholstery that would camouflage stains a bit.

HI joshua123, The kitchen tile is from Pratt & Larson. It is a custom waterjet mosaic piece in marble. The color is a dark grey with a lot of variation. the exact color is bardiglio. the white boarder and interior boarded are snow white marble. kathy and Micah at pratt & lason were extremely helpful finding exactly what I wanted for our kitchen. I'll have to post a couple more pictures from a sunny day, as the ones I have posted dont really reflect the real colors. as far as style and mosaics being dated or not, I'm a firm believer that you should go with what you love and what speaks to you. you are going to be living in the house and walking into that kitchen every day. I dont think our kitchen mosaic looks dated at all, but I'm also not a designer. I can tell you it makes me happy when I walk in to make my morning coffee in that room. I did consider using more of that tile to cover the entire backspace area from the cooktop to the hood, as diana illustrated in some of her photos, to really give it a more modern look, but it was too expensive to justify in this house.

Couple things I always assess when advising clients on new floors, especially on an open floor plan. 1. How much of the original floor are you trying to salvage? 1/2, 1/3, 1/4? Consider tearing it all out and choosing 1 material (except in wet areas if not waterproof) 2. What is the hardwood? Is it a 2-1/4" strip red or white oak? Thickness- 1/2" or 3/4"? Then find a local contractor who specializes in refinishing and installing. They can confirm if the existing floor can be refinished, then they can install unfinished and you can choose any stain you want. 3. Or you can choose stone or porcelain in the entry, kitchen and dining that compliment the hardwood. But just know that option 2 isn't any cheaper than option 1. And option 2 will not have the warranties and manufacturers baked on finish.

Just get the new hardwood to match as close as possible since bedrooms can have different decor and flooring anyway. IMO bedroom wall color is chosen to work with the bedding and I love pale blue bedrooms but I would need to see the space , the floor and the bedding . Wall color is not the driver for flooring color so do not be locked into the gray walls to make this decision. As for what color for the floors I need to see what you have , you do realize you xould match the new ones if they were finished on site which IMO would be the perfect answer.

This is the best picture i have of my current floor. I forgot to mention its not real hardwood but laminate. I just wasnt sure if a lighter color floor or another dark floor would look good. I also love the gray laminate hardwoods. But again i cant decide if it will look okay in transition

You must mean Engineered wood floors. If it is, I would recommend to use another floor with similar thickness. So you can have smooth transition into bedrooms.

Find the closest match possible to what you already have and use that - the same material and the closest color you can find. If you want the rooms to appear lighter, you can use light rugs in the bedrooms.

Oh! It’s laminate, so not hardwood and/or engineered. It is a different investment.

In that case, I suggest you just replace the carpeting with a coordinate color.

Investigate Masland Carpet, nylon,

Then take a look at B.M. Silvery Blue to compliment the rug in your bed room.

I agree to maybe just go with carpet. A lush rich heaven carpet as opposed to having a mismatched wood. If your reason to redo was because you specifically wanted the hardwoods I guess match it to the best of your ability
