Going to look at my cabinets - what should I look for
Comments (2)I know from some of the issues with mine - I would open and close every single door and drawer. Ensure that everything is flush and in line. I would also bring a measuring tape for double-checking anything that seems "off". Then there's the more obvious stuff like looking for flaws and scratches....See More9 Ft Kitchen Ceilings - 36' or 42' Wall Cabinets ?
Comments (18)I think the tall cabs will be more functional, what would you do with the space above anyway? If you can afford the upcharge I would do the 42". In terms of width I'm not a fan of the big wide door - I think you will get a nicer look if you keep the doors fairly uniform in a cabinet run. All of the uppers in my Mom's L are 15" or 30" except for a 12" in the corner straight ahead. The sink base is 33" so the doors are 16.5" - everything hovers around the 15" mark (give or take 3"). I find big variances in width or lack of consistency in door size can make a space look very busy. I think playing with the height can have the same effect - depending on the kitchen its' size and style of course. Everyone's style is different but having not set out to keep things pretty uniform it has turned out to be one the things I like best about this kitchen....See MoreWhich paint color should I go with in living room with open kitchen?
Comments (1)You have left out one very important piece of information: from where does the natural light come? Maui Mist will be perfect if the light is coming from the West. eSpresso cabinets: bright white ceiling: red oak floor: All Benjamin Moore colors South light: Grant Beige West light: Valley Forge Tan North light: Goldtone East light: Spring Meadow There are many other colors which will shine with the natural light; these are just suggestions....See Morehow far should my kitchen cabinets go?
Comments (24)Looking at your floor plan and the 3d mock up of the new space - I don't think you have enough room for the new plan. Given that the kitchen is 11' wide by 18' - you end up using quite a bit of the space for aisles / walkways. And the exterior corner makes a pinch point. Below is how I would envision the space working if it were re-arranged with an island - with ~4' aisles around the island. I wouldn't extend full height cabinets into the breakfast room - I think they're too overbearing for the space. I agree with herbflavor to go half depth - I would space them so they look more like a buffet / console than a giant wall of pantry... but then I'm not 100% sure about your needs. I just don't think that you have enough room to (a) have the fridge stay on the short wall and (b) have an island that extends more than like a foot. Here is a floor plan based on the 3D mock up... on it in red is the current end of the peninsula - you can see that the new plan is proposing to have the island extend past that spot PLUS add a seat. If you have the 2D/overhead view of your proposed layout, that could help clear up some issues... but again, I don't think yo have the space....See MoreRelated Professionals
