Make sure that changing to vinyl will keep you stairs in compliance with building codes. The rise and run needs to remain the same on every step. The carpet typically covers the cheapest stairs known to man and then throw in the condo factor.

I removed the carpeting on our cabin stairs and just painted them. I did a lot of patching and sanding before hand but I liked the look and cheap to do.

I think it will depend on the style you want. I think I would just look far a very simple carpet for the stairs in a dark color not a plush at all.

I would add wood to the side of each step so it looks like there’s wood underneath and then add a pretty carpet runner all the way up

You have lots of wood tones in the floor, get new treads and stain - it will be close enough to look very nice and as if it was intended.

Something along this line is what I’m thinking now( photo 1) A different wood stain tone that doesn’t try to match. Style is sorta Texas-modern in the condo. Still not sure what to do about that top step. Potential installer sent me photo 2 as something he has done before. In that photo, treads and risers are same dark stain. That is much darker than I want to go on ours. But interesting how they did the laminate to the edge. Not sure how that would work with a white riser at the top. Maybe use leftover vinyl plank to the edge and one piece of vinyl trim nosing that is close match right there, and then start the wood treads?? Or is that weird?

Suggest wood treads stained to closely match and painted risers.
