What color curtains and blinds should I go with?

This all depends on what decor you are going for. The long panels will add height to your room, I would go about midway above the window with the drapes and the rod slightly above. Wood or metal- whatever decor you prefer.

I think that the sage panels will look great. I had the black checked ones in my living room years ago. I hung them with the tailored valance and instantly wished that I had hung the panels only. I like a traditional look, but the valances made my home look more old-fashioned/country cottage than I wanted. I think you've made a great decision to try only panels first. If already mentioned, forgive me, but I recommend that you use a long curtain rod and extend it beyond the windows. Hang the panels against the wall to leave as much window space open as possible. I'm all for natural sunlight! If you need privacy in the evenings, then sheer panels underneath the panels could be used.

Anglo, I agree. Why say something so rude instead of scrolling on by a thread that you can't be helpful on? It seems to happen fairly often. I think finding just the right shade of either color to match paint might be a challenge, unless you find the curtains first, then match the paint to them. So I'd go with whichever curtains you find that look most like what you have in your mind. Are you opposed to a print? I think there are some great fabrics that mix those colors. I keep picturing vintage barkcloth, but don't really know if vintage fits your style...I found some prints I think would look good with those colors:

I prefer the cream also....I hope someone can come up with an idea for the vent...it's driving me batty! Do you close the drapes? If not, a bar cart? Plant? Small console? Let's put our collective brains together.. Now, you said you were doing a new chandelier. Do you have any ideas?

someone else just mentioned their photo was stretched. but i have to say neither photo seemed 'off' to me. you couch seems a perfectly sensible size...hmmm. anyway, my rule for drapes is the rod goes no higher than half way from the casing to the ceiling. do a rod all the way across... 'rodlettes'' are a past style that i didnt even care for at the time.

The long panels will be half hidden by your sofa! If you have an alternate arrangement possibility? That would get you a different answer.

Existing arrangement ? flatly NO, A WASTE OF MONEY TO GET A SAWED OFF RESULT.

Invest in quality shades with light control versatility and good looks.

Going for something else? Move the sofa!!!

Windows are not balanced on wall...ledge beneath window......off centered couch....all say no to curtains..painting the wall an accent color ...adding accessories or art with color...would enhance the cozy factor

If you are dying to add curtains wall to wall short curtains..at ledge length could work...to darken the room ...opening by hand from the right to let light in when needed...

You have a lot of great texture in that room. I would like Jan says the white shades. The stone wall, fireplace surround, wood floors, leather couch. Just the color of the blinds is off

The ledge and the sofa's location preclude drapes. If you want softening fabric, consider fabric roman shades.

Why is that sofa shoved in that alcove? The room might require drapery panels, but the layout of furnishings could maybe be improved upon.
