Help with Kitchen Hardware - Pulls or Knobs
Comments (5)I actually think that doing all pulls would look nice with your cabinets. To me, it's a rather traditional door style and knobs would only add to that traditional look whereas pulls may take it more towards the non-traditional feel you're trying to achieve. My only recommendation about pulls is that you get some samples to feel in your hand and make sure you're happy with how many fingers you can easily wrap under. Most standard pulls are 3" long and I found them to be too narrow for my comfort. Yours are just a little over 3" center-to-center, so might work fine. I originally wanted knobs on my cabinets and pulls on my drawers, too, but in the end, decided for a more uniform look and put pulls on everything in 2 lengths (also used Amerock). Link to my finished kitchen is below. There are plenty others here who have done it (try searching "All pulls gardenweb"). For what it's worth, one of the most common things I hear from friends seeing my new kitchen is about how unexpected it is to see pulls on cabinet doors but that it can also work so well. Comments (25)I've painted plenty of kitchen and bathroom cabinets, in my own house and my daughter's, and recommended it for clients who hate their existing (but in good shape) cabinets and want a change. I'm getting ready to paint the cabinets in my new house, too. It's not rocket science, and if it's done properly they will look fine and hold up well. The cabinets need to be sanded/deglossed (either will work) and a good bonding primer applied. I don't sand extensively, just enough to dull the surface. I've always used an oil-based primer, but there are other good bonding primers. Then two coats of paint are applied. I've personally used Benjamin Moore Advance, Cabinet Coat, Sherwin William Pro-Classic, and even just the sample color can from Benjamin Moore and they've all worked well. I use a brush for cutting in and then a small foam roller for the flat parts. The trick to painting cabinets is allowing enough cure time before using them. This means no closing drawers/doors all the way for several weeks, and generally babying them a bit that first month. But one they cure they are great. Unless your painters are truly terrible I can guarantee you'll be happy with your painted cabinets. And white kitchen cabinets with new counters and backsplash absolutely will *visually* lighten your kitchen. It's a tried-and-true staging trick, to use white/light colored accessories and white lampshades to lighten and brighten a dark room. If you want bin pulls vs knobs, you may need to fill in the holes before painting....See MoreKitchen Cabinet Hardware - Silver or Gold? Pulls or Knobs?
Comments (1)I think it depends on the rest of the spaces and the lighting as to what color pulls and knobs.I prefer pulls everywhere and in proportion to the cabinets I never like 2 knobs or pulls on drawers and what do you have the wings on either side of the over hang.? What is the floor going to be ?IMO pulls are one of the last choices to make along with wall color and backsplash..Those choices should be made after making sure all lighting is LED in 4000K. As for timeless I think more important is what you love the next guy can change the pulls and knobs to whatever they love....See MoreThoughts on cabinet pull sizes + knobs vs pulls for pantry cabinets
Comments (5)"I think the premise is to have pulls be *no more than* 1/3 the drawer length." I think designers invent "rules" like this just to have rules. I have never paid much attention to such nonsense. There is a limit, of course, to how wide pulls can be. You don't want them to interfere with drawer operation. Other than that, anything that looks good to you is just fine. As for variations in length, don't worry about it. There is no rule that all pulls have to be the same size, although the same general design is good. One thing about pantry pulls. You are probably going to be opening pantry doors with arms full of groceries, so a pull you can operate with an elbow, wrist, knee, or one pinky finger is a good choice....See MoreRelated Professionals
