I have pics of frames my dad made at his plastics factory in Glendale in 1940's that look lot like your frame. The pic was held in place by 2 pieces of glass 1 in front of pic,1 in back,dad's were for 8 x 10 pics. Pics were usually hand colored in back then & these were often part of a dresser set. Pic frame,Tilting mirror in frame, powder container & sometimes mirror topped tray for perfumes. The pic often ended up on top of the chest of drawers as the lady had very little space on her dresser. Compacts & other accessories could be had also & in colors!

Kees_Lover, Thank you for sharing your landscape prints framed showing me so many different ways a picture can be framed and look nice. I really do appreciate all the helpful people on this decorating site. I am now thinking that I like my print despite how much green it has so I have to decide on a frame. I will try to take pictures tomorrow. My sofa and recliner are called taupe but to me is a leather by Natuzzi that is more on the beige taupe side and is very neutral but does not like gold frames and since I have two glass lamps with chrome bases and chrome filaments on top of the very white shades on the glass tables next to the sofa and a triangle glass table in front with the green glass edging, BM Bone White Walls, White baseboard molding and Brazilian Cherry Floors, I am wondering if a Bronze frame will go or will it clash with the sofa or the chrome? Bronze is more of a brown right? I also like a brown espresso very ornate frame but I wonder if it would be too dark. My picture if of Japanese Maple trees with dark Pine Trees and some other lighter green trees and some trees with orange and yellow but the green dominates with red the second color. There is a bridge and a green pond probably from algae. My room needs some color so bad and I wish I had chosen a dark brown or Mahogany sofa and not taupe years ago since it took me a year to buy some furniture when I bought my first home. Do you think a 40"X 30"size print would be good that will get bigger with a mat and frame for an 81" long sofa? I never bought pictures before except for the small framed prints in 2007 from JCPenney. I went there and they have no more framed prints for sale in their store.

(We call ours the picture rail. Yours is pretty elaborate--are you sure that's not crown molding? Picture rails are usually pretty small in profile--you don't want the pictures dangling down too far out from the wall. Are you adding picture rail to that, or perhaps the bottom-most molding piece is the picture rail?) I think you can do either one w/ that chair rail. Your 2nd pic shows wainscoting below the chair rail, and it continues into the window bay as well; that's a different effect, a bit, than yours, with the wall all one color above and below. The logic is different. In #2, it's simply the way the bottom half of the wall is finished. In #1, the chair rail looks like a functional chair rail--to keep chairs from bumping the wall. And since chairs can't go in the bay, well, there's a rationale for not turning the corner with the molding strip. But I agree with you--I think it might look a bit more finished if the chair rail turned into the bay and ended next to the next vertical molding (i.e., the window frame). You could try to butt it up against the window frame, or you could give it a nice-looking ending right next to the window frame with a tiny gap. I do not like sectionals. They often lock in furniture placement. However, here is a Houzz ARTICLE that explains sectionals and the pros and cons of various types. I prefer a sofa with chairs that can be placed for conversation or turned to watch TV. Whatever you decide, take a tape measure with you to the store when you shop. Furniture stores usually have high ceilings and wide expanses that tend to make furniture look smaller. Measure furniture to make sure the pieces will fit where you want them.
