5 year mfg warranty has value. Read the fine print. Likely this warranty would sway my purchase to FP.

My last Bosch DW went 10 years plus another 4 after a $400 overhaul. (current price is $1400 for this model). Both my Jenn Air oven and ele cooktop required repairs of that level around the 8 year mark.

KA has been good but one client is still working on their KA range warranty service after 18 mos but I think KA replaced the range.

Per clients many other brands have minimal life expectation beyond the end of warranty. Mysterious control panel and circuit board fails seem common. Microwaves and refers seem to have shorter life spans. Dishwashers need cleaning and maintenance to reduce service calls.

I never buy all appliances from one maker and F&P does not make everything well either. You buy appliances for how you cook and the size of fridge you really NEED which BTW is a counter depth one. I will always get a Bosch DW mine is 13 yrs old never had a repair and I run a catering biz from my home sometimes 6-8 loads a day. I would compare prices that warranty is rolled in somewhere I bet. If you are buying all the appliances from one vendor do some negotiating anf get what you need not just because there is a deal or they all “match” Stick with plain old stainless and they will all match no matter who makes them.

What Patricia said. Purchase the best appliances you can afford, and your best best is to mix brands. I’ve got Miele double ovens (combi steam, and regular convection), Thermador rangetop, Bosch dishwasher, SubZero fridge, and Vent A Hood for ventilation. All are 6 years old (come Feb 1), and not a lick of trouble.

Jeffrey makes a good point about reading the fine print. I’ve found that what’s covered varies considerably with the extended warrantees. And it matters who’s covering the warranty. My SZ repair warned me against a particular local retailer because they sub out their work and notoriously don’t pay. So when he gets a call from them he charges the customer (who’s not happy) and tells them they have to try to collect from the store. Compare that to another retailer who couldn’t themselves fix the oven in my sister’s soon-to-be house and just swapped out a $6000 oven for a brand new one.

A five year manufacturers warranty would go in the pro’s column for me if it’s a full warranty, and might tip the scale if it was a close call.

True. The OP is asking about a cooktop, nothing else.

The point Patricia and I are trying to make, is to purchase an appliance based on quality, and reliability, and not any deal that‘s being offered. One should buy the best appliance one can afford. Period.

I agree with buying based on quality and reliability, and I’d agree with not making a few hundred bucks of price difference influence the decision unless all else is relatively equal or affordability is at stake. I don’t necessarily agree with buying the best you can afford.

Something to look into...some credit card companies will extend any warranty for another 1-2 years at no cost. With our last purchase, our credit card company extended the 5 year warranty for another 2 years. The reality today is quality and reliability can be iffy with most brands.

CHECK that though, don‘t just rely on what they told you in the past. Amex dropped it on mine, apparently notification was mixed in somewhere in the pages accompanying a statement, which I never look at.

Depends on pricing. The least-expensive FP model on Appliances Connection is the CI304PTX1N at $2399. But a similar GE Profile PHP9030SJSS is $1523. The difference is $876 but you can buy a 5-year service plan for the GE for $179.

The Frigidaire Professional FPIC3077RF ($1613) has knobs (which you may like).

Thanks all for your answers. Decided to forgo F&P appliances as delivery became much more iffy. Have ordered a Cafe 30 inch induction at $1625 (about $600 less than the F&P along with Bosch refrigerator. I also have a couple of induction cooktops and refrigerator on order at Home Depot as a backup.
