recommendations for backsplash for michalangelo quartzite?

My new countertops have lots of colour and movement, same counter on both island and perimeter. They are the focal point of the kitchen, for sure... and we love them. Cabinets are ikea bodbyn (white) and walls are BM collingwood. The wall colour looks great with the cabinets and counter so I think I need something similar and simple for the backsplash. Don’t worry, I know the tiles in the pics are not right. The under cabinet lighting is smart so the warmth can be adjusted. Right now we have them at 3000K which matches the rest of the light in the kitchen.

Floors aren’t installed yet but they will be a medium brown maple.

Any suggestions to help me visualize what I should be looking for are welcome.

Solid color solid surface. That stone needs no geometry as competition.

Does anyone have any updates about the honed quartz? I was looking at calcatta vicenza in matte ( honed) because when i went to MSI in Norwood, MA, I found that the matte wasn't as busy of a pattern and it was a lighter, more soothing design. After reading these reviews i'm nervous about the honed but I do like it better than polished, and I find that polished is more of an ivory and the matte is more of a white. Please help! I'm meeting tonight with the contractor.

If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good.

I would probably look for a backsplash something in the white family. Something that looks a little bit textural or handmade. I have seen photos of cletile zellige on Instagram (haven’t seen in person) and I like the imperfect look. I would also look at Tabarka tile. I’m sure there are many other good options. I would also try to pep things up by using bronze or brushed gold hardware or maybe a thin gold bar tile accent.

I, too, am a bit concerned about cherry cabinets with this slab. The slab, however, is stunning! I also highly suggest waiting until counters are installed before marrying your backsplash (as someone who had to rip down half a wall of backsplash and replace it). Whatever you choose, though, I would go subtle to let the beauty of the counters speak full volume.

Reflection ? Glare? Causing shadows in various colors. Is it daylight meeting gloss of paint meeting your kelvin level of bulbs? Or just photography? Anyway : a creamy ceramic tile like cabinets , in average type subway format. But the cabs look both violet and yellow. Is help needed w lighting????

Herbflavour, probably a combination of difficult lighting and bad photography. The cabinets are a warm white. The lighting in the room is all new and the kitchen is extremely bright so definitely not a problem, but there are also some large windows in the room and we had a snowstorm recently... so there’s probably some cool light reflecting into the room from some areas in those photos. And both of the pictures were taken later in the day, on different days.

I can try to get some better pictures at some point, but I agree with all the comments so far - something really plain and lacking texture/colour.

Beautiful stone! Before deciding on a tile I might try to pick out a color from the stone and paint the backsplash to try it out.
