I would tile to the ceiling behind the vent, then to the bottom of the cabinet left of the window, then to the end of the counter on the right side of the window, but don't go up the wall any further, just keep a line of tile under the window sill.

No you should not be doing "side splash".

I agree with comment on placement from Angel 18432. The only issue I see is the white grout. Consider doing a board with white and then one with a medium tone gray. I think the white might be too bright.

I agree ^. But you need to take a close look at the right side of the window. Does the end of the counter line up exactly with the outside edge or the window frame? It looks like it will extend further once the countertop is on, and leave you with a tiny sliver of tiles to the right of the window, broken up again with the outlet. I would try to adjust the dishwasher cabinet or that side so your counter is long enough to give you a symmetrical tile space on the right side of the window to match the side on the left. You might want to move the outlet to the right a few inches to clear the tile, or remove it.

@bikertoni - Thank you! We'll definitely mock out the medium tone grey to see what that looks like. We saw pics online where white grout was used which we liked.

@calidesign the right side of the window does not line up with the end of the counter (see photos). Unfortunately my spouse doesn't want to relocate the outlet. :( Should we end the tile run to edge of the counter? Or line up to the edge of the window?

When you install the countertops, I'd make sure they give you an overhang on the right side end that will allow you to put the same amount of tile on the right side on the window as you have between the upper cabinet and window frame on the left. Especially since the tile is a dark color and will be very noticeable. I'd get some solid wrapping paper and tape it up where the tile would go around the window area so you can stand back and see the effect. I think it would look unbalanced to have tile at the level under the cabinets on the left but not at all on the sides on the right. It's an easy fix now before your countertops are measured.

Looks ok, but would have looked better if you had done to the ceiling on all the walls and no "side splash" which is a big no no.
