Choosing entryway/foyer lighting...HELP!!
Comments (13)I don't usually post here, but we put a Moravian star in our lakehouse, centered in the small window above the porch. It is 24 inches wide, and it fits the space perfectly. Here's a bad pic (only one I had) to illustrate it. Frankly, if I were you, I'd put it on your porch, where they were traditionally used. Your double window will obscure much of it, and will destroy the illusion of that window being part of the 2nd floor, making a more contemporary exterior appearance of a 2 story entry....See MoreEntry Lighting Help...
Comments (21)thanks for great tips. i tok the glass out for now. duh. that would have been wonderful for all these years of dusty glass. lol. but they don't look right. I like the round orbs. I was thinking of it. but what do i do in the stairway? another round one? dining room....I do have sheer drapes in dining room. they were removed for painter. i had a valance also but i think it's dated looking. i'm trying to 'modernize'....ish ... moving away from country. so are just sheers ok? should I do 2 panels per side? I need the privacy. everyone walks by and stares right in while we eat dinner... Whole inside was just painted Sherwin Williams accessible beige [dovetail in bath and bonus room]. it's more grey than beige on my walls. taking some getting used to but growing on me. we are in the trees so it really brightens up the house. like i said i'm trying to go away from country. think rustic chic? lol. rug in entry way.... I could never find one that 'worked'...ideas? should I recover bench in solid? mirror...feng shui says it is a no no facing a door which is where that table is. so I could put the mirror by the bench but that seems odd. we don't really come in and out this way [usually go through garage] so no need for basket...unless just for looks....love the ideas. i'm getting rid of the welcome sign and going to put something with more hooks with maybe the 3 pictures over it [bible verse] ? thanks so much....See MoreHelp finding an entry light that flows with this dining room light?
Comments (3)Let’s talk shape first. Entry light...assuming you mean for a foyer? Is it 1 or 2 story? Confined space or sprawling? So try to narrow down the size and shape first and then the style should fall into place....See MoreHelp! Will these lights work with our entrance?
Comments (7)Wow, I see why you are in love with these lights. Incredible. I would make a to-size 3-D mock up of them using cardboard or a brown bag. Hang the mock ups and take a picture to post. I think they might feel too big and weighted for the space you are intending. I also wonder if they will cast enough light to be able to see well at night so you don't fall. They look like they are intended to be hung much higher and doing so would cast a wide circle of light. I wonder if they are hung at the height you intend if the would have more of a downlight effect with a narrow throw. If this is not the right light perhaps you can find a similar type of light that is the right scale for your home. That website is really cool and looks like it has tons of lights that could work. I would not be concerned about them not being UL listed. I have taken tons of vintage fixtures, that are totally gutted, to be newly wired by lighting repair people, and have had licensed electricians install them. Go to good people, who are not fly by night, and who make a living doing this kind of wiring. The site for purchase seems to have a wiring service. Ask them about it. Lastly, if I were a thief, I'd like to lift them in a heartbeat. Hope you live in a safe neighborhood....See MoreWestCoast Hopeful
