FYI-I started this thread over a year ago.....that said, I like seeing these pictures again. In the year, I decided I wasn't ready to start a scrappy string quilt (not enough variation in scraps yet) but, I did recently separate much of the mess of scraps I had accumulated. Toolgranny had stated the obvious to most of you - but since I was so new, I needed it stated - heehee- you need at least 3/4" wide strips. That was my guideline, and the smaller went in a bag to be used for a pillow for my son's dog - who chews up everything stuffed. I have come so far in a year - thanks to you all sharing! Please add any string/ crumb quilts you've made to this thread. jool- I read where someone uses 2" adding machine tape on a roll as her foundation to make her piano keys. I thought that was a good idea.

I used the muslin as a foundation and really liked working with it. Mine were all brights so the black really sets them off. It is a wedding gift for my nephew and I miscalculated and it was very narrow and long, so I added more to the width but it still has a funny proportion but guess what they'll get it anyone. A young couple building a brand new house and buying everything new. I am jealous so hopefully they have a place for it. Db

The Cardinal at the top was a sparrow and it was paper pieced I tried three times to get it to come out and decided I did not like it so maybe that is why I could not get it right.. So I associate Cardinals with winter and Christmas so I changed it to that... It was a lot of fun and only one block a month it didn't seem like so much work. Thanks everyone, grace

Thanks everybody, Yes, a good effort, we're told this particular charity gives American Girl dolls to girls who have been abused & so they've asked for the doll blankets to give as well or with them. Sweet idea, am happy to help & yes, it's a great use of nice sized scraps. Like the sweet sounding teddy bear idea mentioned above. This group I'm told also gives Teddy Bears, to the Boys who've been abused. I show the backs of quilts 'cause I often do something on their back, experiment or play, if I've got the fabric I sometimes can't resist. To me, it's a blank canvas I guess. I often wish I could see the back of peoples' quilts, it matters to me. But I must admit, I thought about this & I don't recollect any doll blankets at all. I learned to sew as a little girl, making doll clothes, a whole wardrobe full, I still have them too, interesting to look at them 50 yrs. later.
