flagstone patio - does it ever stay put?
Comments (3)Well, I've had flagstone but not set in concrete. It looks great with a ground cover, like creeping thyme, growing between the stones. Then it won't matter if the move a bit. I've also used fieldstone for paths and dig deep holes to bury them in, with a flat side up. They don't budge. If you want it in concrete, I guess this doesn't help much. I don't see how it can stay put with the ground freezing and thawing. It might depend on how deep the base is underneath. It will need a couple of feet of a sandy base....See MoreWhat NOT to put on top of a china cabinet
Comments (20)Thanks Gang, it means a lot to hear you say such nice things about my decor and collecting. Frou, I'm a "more is wonderful" person too. Oak, I didn't use actual glue and the dogs are easy for me to remove with no damage to the cabinet. Cats trained me long ago that some things just need to be 'fixed' to a spot. LOL. Something cat lovers just deal with I guess, as you know. Actually the bonus is, I won't knock stuff over and break it while dusting. Win-win situation. Party, the thought of my DH saying go ahead and buy that cabinet made me laugh. He's a good guy, but not THAT good. LOL. He's so oblivious to all my stuff that its kind of funny. I'm glad my Dad loves my ponies, and also loves all the different holiday decorating I do. Sometimes hearing "that's nice, Dear" in a blah tone just doesn't do it for me. I swear I could sit something in the middle of the floor and DH wouldn't even see it as he stepped around it. Must be that "golf-blindness" he has, just can see green spaces and little white balls. So Jay, that was you screeching that I heard. I'm sorry Posie broke your grandmother's pitcher. But I bet she rarely breaks anything. Its totally amazing how careful cats are walking around or laying among things. (bet our Jim here could write a book on cats and collections. Especially his little kittens now. If you're lurking Jim, we need a baby cat update!) I love seeing Christmas Village pictures where often someone's cat is laying in the middle of one..and the village is still standing. hugs, Karen...See MoreWhat is the most valuable item you have ever found?
Comments (20)definately my husband. found him, tatty and discarded, sitting on the curb after he'd been dumped by a girl who wasn't fit to serve him drinks. he's been priceless ever since :) but stuff? I paid a buck for a yard 'and a bit' of relatively modern Fortuny fabric - orange, with a white over-print in a flower-and-urn pattern. covered ten switchplate covers with it for my house, two small photo albums, one of which I sold for $40, the other I gave to the lady who taught me to recognize good fabric...and the remaining yard's worth a hundred bucks or so. paid a buck for a piece of Haegar (?) pottery for a friend - apparantly, the purple and blue stuff is rarer than the blue and green glazes? and this spring, I found a little pen and ink sketch in a pile of much better art work. ugly little thing, of a guy in sunglasses and a loud shirt. thought it looked familiar, paid $10 for it, figuring to frame it for a friend who's a huge Hunter S Thompson fan. turned out not to be such a friend, in the end...but the sketch was for real, and earned me half a mortgage payment....See MoreWhat to put on top of kitchen cabinets
Comments (38)Keeping colors consistent helps pull it all together. Also using larger items that are of like kind or have a theme. It's hard for me to imagine not having anything above the cabs. I clean once a year, and it's quite a job for sure, but so is trying to keep animal fur off the carpeting/wood, so I vacumn, at least every other day. I wouldn't get rid of my pets, so guess I guess i wouldn't get rid of my stuff either. Lol I started collecting copper about 10 years ago, and decided it shoud all be together, and it is! What I have above the woodtone cabs is random stuff, but I thought it all went together....See MoreRelated Professionals
