Panel Ready Dishwashers How To
Comments (3)Instructions for the Bosch panel-ready are complete and accurate. It takes a bit of intelligence to figure them out. The paper itself is sized to be part of the template, and they don't write that out in long hand on the document. People have been known to scratch their heads for a time until the penny drops. Like in all things, a long slow getting to know you process is good to have. If someone who has never seen one needs to install it with a single read he might get stymied. This is why they have a 1-800 Bosch phone number. Calling them is always good. See the web site too. For installation documents in PDF form. Comments (27)Once the light pipe has been terminated by a lens to diverge the light, the N.A. (numerical aperture) has been spoiled, and only the part of the resulting beam that is within the NA of a successive light pipe will be carried forward. Of course, this can also be an issue with the hole and secondary lens approach, as the secondary lens may capture only part of the emission angle established by the existing panel lens. On the other hand, if the secondary light pipe has a rough finish on the observer end, it need not have a secondary lens or have high capture at the primary lens. Dishwasher state is observable so long as the brightness of the light pipe end viewed from relevant distances and angles has sufficient contrast with the wood around it. Any clear plastic rod could be used, and could be easier to mount than a lens. However, a plastic rod is only a light pipe if air or vacuum or some other lower index of refraction substance surrounds it. So, one can have a lot of fun with optics here, but testing should be done in a scrap piece of wood substituting for a piece of panel. kas...See MoreNeed assistance on sizing for 800 Series Bosch Panel Ready Dishwasher
Comments (4)mholtz, I went through this install process, and learned a few things. I'll show you what I did and hopefully it will make it easier for you. First, the easy part... 1/8" at the sides should be fine. I used about 3/16" but it would work with 1/8". The Bosch panel template assumes a few things. First, it assumes that you will mount the dishwasher as high as it will go, up against the bottom of the counter. And that you will mount the wood panel flush with the top of the dishwasher door. If you install it like that with a door taller than 30 1/8", it will bind at the bottom baseboard when opening. The bottom is where the problem with the taller panel occurs. However, for best appearance you want your panel taller, to match the bottom and top of the adjacent doors and/or drawer stacks, with a consistent gap under the counter edge. You should get your panel made to that height, ignoring the 30 1/8" limit. To make this work however, you need to mount the dishwasher lower, with the wood panel higher than the door, to allow it to fully open. It's tough to explain in words, so I made a couple of diagrams. Example 1 is following the template directions, but a taller door binds at the bottom. Example 2 is what I ended up doing to accommodate the taller panel....See MoreFully integrated panel ready dishwasher
Comments (17)The water shutoff is a separate mini-appliance connected to an in-line valve on your pipes. It senses flow and shuts off the valve if a leak is detected. You can find them for a single pipe or for your whole house. You can also find similar units that do not include a valve but simply notify you when a leak is detected, either through in-line flow monitoring or via a basic analog water sensor. With the in-line units, leaks are identified as flows that last abnormally long or are flowing at a higher rate than normal. I've had analog sensors, "smart" detectors, and smart detectors with a valve for automatic shutoff. The analogs just beep really loudly if water is detected, and then you need to be home to hear it and take action. The smart detectors notify you of the leak via an app. The smart detectors calibrate to your water usage using an app - usually for a period of about one week - and then monitor flow patterns to detect anything out of the ordinary. The smart detectors with a shutoff will notify you and close the valve (depending on your settings). Two that I have used and been impressed with are Grohe with valve and StreamLabs without valve. The whole-house units are not cheap, but as DH says, peace of mind is priceless (they cost less than a single year's home insurance). We were on vacation last week with the StreamLabs unit set to "away" mode, and we got water usage notifications whenever our housesitter used the bathroom (!). As Darbuka said, even a single-pipe unit is a good idea with any DW (or clothes washer, etc.). Some DWs also have a built-in shutoff valve if flow exceeds a certain rate - I have not had one of those....See MoreLJ JL
